How is the hauling of car seats

Hauling the car seats is carried out in several stages.

The chair is dismantled, the old upholstery is removed. The old upholstery is pulled apart, it is measured and new patterns are made. Patterns are reinforced with foam, which is glued with special glue, this makes the material stronger. Then, if necessary, the seat filler is restored, as a rule, the lateral support, the lower part, is restored. Then the parts are sewn and fastened in the desired sequence, after which the chair is mounted in place.

The constriction of the car seats is handled by most tuning shops. And how many car owners want to try to sheathe the interior of the car with their own hands ... Indeed, there are so many interesting things in this task! Any tuning project related to the car interior trim requires partial or complete disassembly. This is not always a simple task - there are plenty of cunning fasteners in the car interior. But intuitively you can guess where a piston, a self-tapping screw or a screw can hide under the car interior trim. Car seats are bolted through runners to the floor. In order to remove the seat with your own hands, it is enough to unscrew the four bolts and open the electrical connectors.

01. We pulled the seat out of the passenger compartment and set it on the table so that it would be more convenient to plan the location of fragments of leather and Alcantara on the cover of the seat banner. Sewers marked with a marker, signed each panel of the cover with the name of the material from which it will be cut.

02. Strong hands are needed to remove the cover from the seat frame. In places of dividing into fragments (in the corners of the abutment of the skin panels) on the back and "seat" cover is pulled to the pillow frames with steel rings. The design of draws can be different, but the polyurethane pillows in any case strongly spring and hold the cover.

03. The removed cover for the seat belt passes into the hands of the cutter, a specialist in car interior trim. The master unpacks the cover into separate panels - prepares for transfer to new materials.

04. For example, an Alcantara part planned for hauling a seat is laid out on a table and pressed against the Alcantara by weights. It is outlined with a gel pen along the contour and for combining the flaps is marked with short notches along the perimeter. Alcantara, like leather, is easily cut with tailor scissors.

There is one very important task in the process of cutting parts of the car interior trim from Alcantara. Alcantara is similar to suede and has a short pile. This pile is directed in one direction. You guess that the direction of the pile must be taken into account in the cutting? A mistake in the direction of the pile will look like a difference in the shade and tone of the braid detail.

05. A hauling of seats and some other details of a covering of inside of the car are not complete without reinforcing the skin and Alcantara with foam on a fabric basis. Cut out leather and Alcantara details of seat covers are glued to the foam rubber (on the side of the foam rubber, not the fabric) with glue in a spray can. It is impossible to smear foam rubber for hauling seats with a brush - you can spoil the part with your own hands: the glue passes deep into the pores and, when squeezed, glues the internal structure of the foam. Simply put, foam does not return to its original position.

07. The next operation is the gluing of the seam lapels dilated to the sides on the wrong side of the seat covers. Question - what to stick to? First, cut off the strips of foam that remained near the lapels in order to clean the lapels of Alcantara and skin for gluing. Then, we part the lapels of the skin and Alcantara to the sides and press them to the foam. An important point in the interior trim of a car is beating alcantara seams and leather on foam. Ivy seams with an ordinary hammer.

10. The seat cover of the hauling seat also has its own troubles. First, the cover is laid out on the seat cushion, and then it needs to be pulled to the frame. Plastic clamps are used to attract the seat cover in the middle. The clamps are threaded through the pillow into the special holes in the same way as they were on the native design. On the cover, the collar clings to a knit sheathed in fabric and sewn to the cover from the inside. The edges of the cover are pulled onto the seat frame along the contour. The back is sewn to the cover with a native plastic bracket (torn from the native seat), from the sides and front for cutouts in the seat frame.

11. The car interior trim always ends with drying and steaming of the tightened parts. Covers hauling the seats are heated by a jet of hot air from the hair dryer - the skin dries up and stretches like a drum. All seats are ironed with steam through a rag. After these procedures, the hauling of the seats becomes absolutely smooth, as if made of solid material. I think that these operations can be done by everyone with their own hands.

12. Yes, steaming is not all! The car interior trim must be cleaned after hauling. Especially skin and Alcantara of light tones. Fingerprints, spots of glue, scuffs remained on our seats ... With special detergents, the master launders traces of the hauling of seats. By the way, the skin and Alcantara are perfectly cleansed, even from strong impurities.

13. Before installing in the car, the seats are fully assembled. False panels, drawers, covers, levers are screwed, snap and cling to the frames of the seats. At this, the interior trim of the car, namely the hauling of the seats ends.

01. MATERIALS. What do we need and how much?
Our salon will be combined in two colors - black and beige. Of course, you can choose any other colors to your taste. For the central parts of the seats, I chose beige perforated eco leather (2.5 m). For the back of the back and pockets - beige without perforation (1.5m). And for all other details - black leather deputy (3,5m). Choose special automotive material. It is designed for large temperature differences and is resistant to fading. Regular furniture leather deputy is not suitable, as it is designed for comfortable conditions in apartments. Still need thin foam rubber - 0.5 cm thick. They will need to glue all the details of the skin. I have already duplicated black material. But for beige it took 3 sheets of foam rubber. Need glue, special furniture. Usually it is pink. It can be purchased at specialized stores.

02. Sewing accessories.
• Purchase special skin needles No. 90 or 100.
• Threads will also be required for sewing leather (ordinary ones will not work, they simply will not withstand the load). Look for threads marked Extra Strong or for the shoe industry. It will take at least three coils of 200 meters.
• 3-5 meters of adhesive non-woven - according to the amount of foam rubber and perforated material.
• Machine oil.

03. Material preparation
All foam rubber is glued with non-woven using an iron. This is necessary so that during operation the foam does not crumble. Also, non-woven fabric facilitates the sliding of foam rubber under the foot during sewing.

04. Getting started
Remove the entire trim from the seats (the seats have long been removed from the car).

05. Markup
Now, looking at the cover, everything seems clear to us. But when we cut it into parts, we can easily get confused which part comes from. Therefore, we take a marker and number each element of the cover. For convenience, I drew on a separate sheet a diagram of each seat and back and also numbered details. Thus, it will be impossible to get confused.

06. Knitting needles
From the wrong side, you can find such "pockets" with knitting needles. These wires are useful to us for new covers. Take them out and set aside for now. Be sure to remember the sewing places of these knitting needles and mark it on your paper chart.

07. Preparation of patterns
Unzip the covers. We cut off all seam allowances. Here's what happened in the end - patterns for new covers.

08. Cutting
Each detail is transferred to the skin deputy. In order not to confuse anything and not to get parts in a mirror arrangement, we apply them to the wrong side of the material with the wrong side up. As shown in the photo.

09. Seam allowances
Add from all sides (where required) allowances for seams equal to 1 cm. Do not forget to number all the details.

11. We get a set of new parts for covers
In this case, this is the back seat. But in the same way, we carry out the back and both front seats.

12. Glue
As mentioned earlier, parts made of leather zama must be glued with foam. I only need to work with beige. The black leather deputy is already ready for sewing. Ideally, you need to glue with a spray gun. But at home this is not always possible, so we apply glue with a brush or rubber spatula. Practice trimming your material as you wish. Please note that we stick foam rubber to the skin on the side that is non-woven.

13. Possible problem
I have a problem with perforated eco skin. When trying to glue such parts to the foam, glue seeped through the holes. The solution was found as follows - first glue the material from the inside with non-woven material, and then glue the foam rubber to it. That is, we got such a sandwich - eco leather + non-woven + foam + non-woven.

14. Getting started sewing
When the glued parts have dried, cut out and proceed with sewing. We start with the central parts of the seats (or back). We apply marking for decorative stitches.

15. Knitting needles
From the wrong side we put needles and mark out where they should be (exactly in the same place as on the old covers).

16. For sewing on knitting needles, we cut out strips equal to the length of the wire from any fabric. Fold along in half and sew to the wrong side of the corresponding part.

17. We sew decorative stitches on a sewing machine, having previously lubricated the front side with oil. This is necessary so that the foot of the machine moves more easily through the material.

18. Assembly of parts
Now that all the parts are ready, proceed to assembly. Stitch all the elements of the cover in one. Here we just need our paper scheme.

22. Stitching
Turn the cover over to the front side and lay decorative stitching. Again, for better glide, wipe the front and back surfaces with engine oil.

23. Here in this sequence I grind off the details. First left and right elements in one.

24. Now grind the left and right sides together. We process the lower and upper sections, thread the cords and knitting needles that were in the old casing.

25. View of the cover from the wrong side. It remains to knock all the knitting needles into place.

26. Continue
We sew the remaining covers - on the front seats, head restraints and backrest in the same way. All over again - unzip the old skin, cut new parts, etc. I decided to change some details a little. For example, sew pockets into the back of the front seats. Therefore, I cut one whole part into several elements.

27. Result

After working with all the covers we have, we get a new trim for the car seats. We pull everything into place and enjoy the work done. In the photo salon “before” and “after”.
