Sunny Beach
The huge advantage of Sunny Beach (Slanchev Bryag) is an almost continuous 8 km long sandy beach with a width of 100 m. To this we add a convenient position behind Cape Emine, which serves as protection from strong currents, and a shallow, very gradually increasing depth near the coast.
In the early 1950s. the development of this resort was undertaken by prominent Bulgarian architects. Then the sand dunes were still surrounded by dense forest and swarmed with snakes. In order to get rid of the poisonous snakes, hedgehogs specially caught all over Bulgaria were released on Sunny Beach, and after a short time the beach was free of snakes. Bungalows scattered in the forest became the first refuge for tourists, and later there were hotels. But only a general tourist boom in the 1970s and 80s. has turned Sunny Beach into the largest seaside resort in Bulgaria with 150 hotels and 45,000 accommodations. By now, almost all hotels have been reconstructed and meet the highest requirements for the level of comfort and service. If you allow yourself to directly compare Sunny Beach with Golden Sands in the north, this resort is more dynamic and, perhaps, more hippie.

In any case, it is much more extensive, so bicycle rickshaws and scooter and mountain bike rentals, of which there are many along the carefully manicured waterfront, have good income. Even the police in Sunny Beach use bicycles. Several tourist trains run from the southern part of the resort to the northern line of hotels closest to the sea. Large hotels have taxi ranks; however, drivers rarely turn on the taximeter, and the price is usually negotiated verbally. Inexpensive city buses run along a street that runs north, parallel to the hotel zone.

The beach here is wide, with fine sand and well maintained. In the center and on the south side, it is surrounded by high sand dunes. In the north, unfortunately, the same dunes were destroyed during development. Sun loungers and umbrellas create comfort and coolness, and every stretch of the beach has eateries, drink kiosks, a restaurant and a rental shop for all kinds of water recreation props. There are pedal boats, motorcycles, bananas, huge lifebuoys, and so on and so forth. On some sections of the beach, massage therapists work on sunbeds under awnings, on others they just walk among vacationers and offer their services on site.

Hotels are located along the coast in several rows. On the first line, where there is a good view of the sea, there are luxury hotels. On the second, third and sometimes even on the fourth line, housing is simpler, but much cheaper, quieter and greener: after all, Sunny Beach, like other Bulgarian resorts, is replete with beautiful old trees. Supermarkets provide holidaymakers with drinks, treats and newspapers. Hotel employees turn a blind eye to the fact that guests are buying cheaper drinks outside the hotel.

Promenade
The promenade turns into a huge stage in the afternoon and evening. Many bars and restaurants have open-air bands; youngsters crowd around tattoo and piercing parlors or bungee towers, while children test their dexterity at rodeo machines or jumping rope. On the shelves, you can buy T-shirts, sports tights, branded jeans, mobile phones and computer games - of course, everything is fake, but at ridiculous prices. When the archaic figure of a gypsy with a bear arises in the midst of this confusion, you cease to understand what time you are in. The training of brown bears in Bulgaria is not prohibited, but the fame of thieves and fraudsters is fixed for the gypsies, and the police invariably drive them away.

The center of Sunny Beach is located near the Kuban hotel, quite precisely in the middle of the hotel zone stretching along the beach. Here guests can find a post office, a bus stop, a bank and many boutiques selling counterfeit branded clothes. Completing this set are shops and CD-ROM kiosks, American fast food businesses, trendy bars and discos modeled on Ibiza's, and a water park. Travel agencies offer short and long distance excursions, fish picnics and a Balkan wedding. But, as a rule, it is better to book such excursions directly at the hotel or from the representative of the company that organized your trip to Bulgaria. Experience shows that the offers of “free” guides are not always as good as it seems at first.

Excursion program
The most popular family excursions in Sunny Beach include a visit to the Dolphinarium in Varna, a jeep safari or a ride on a Monster Truck along the slopes of the Balkan Mountains. A truck with huge tires on wheels and benches in the back makes dizzying ups and downs against the backdrop of a serene rural landscape until all passengers are powdered with a thin layer of dust. The trip ends with an abundant barbecue on the lake. No less popular among tourists is a one-day boat trip to "Robinson Beach", where Robinson and Friday are waiting for the guests and arranging games and performances for them. There are two-day tours: one introduces vacationers to the capital of Bulgaria Sofia and the Rila Monastery, the other is aimed at Istanbul, which is not so far away. Day tours include excursions to the gorges and villages of the Balkan Mountains, along the southern coast or to the Valley of the Roses, where the raw materials for the precious rose oil are collected in May-June.

Saint Vlas
The resort town between Sunny Beach and Elenite is named after the nearest village, located a little higher on the slopes of the Balkan Mountains. Unlike the two neighboring settlements, Saint Vlas (Sveti Vlas) has its own architectural face. A striking example of this is the Manastira hotel, built in the style of the Rila Monastery. Besides hotels, St. Vlas has villas and hotel-type houses, which are populated mainly by local and Eastern European tourists. The 1 km long sandy beach abounding with coves is not crowded. Although the village was founded in the XIV century, there is almost no historical information about it. Not far from the Manastira hotel you can see the ruins of a monastery.

Museum of Applied Arts Chifilka
The Chiflika Museum Village, surrounded by the spurs of the Balkan Mountains, lies not far from the village of Kosichino (on the road from Sunny Beach through Tankovo, Orizare and Dyulinsky Pass, about 25 km). There are signs in Kosichino towards the Museum of Applied Arts. Shoemakers, joiners and potters showcase their craft in several ancient houses around a common courtyard. In a small exhibition space, national costumes and woven carpets are collected. This complex includes a restaurant where you can taste the national Bulgarian cuisine, for example, lamb on a spit roasted over an open fire. Upon prior reservation for a group of tourists a fire dance of nestinars on coals can be performed.

Elenite
12 km east of Sunny Beach, on a green slope above a narrower, but excellent sandy beach, lies the fashionable Elenite Holiday Village, which operates on the All-Inclusive principle. Elenite complex consists of a comfortable hotel and a whole village of bungalows, recently renovated to European standards. In addition, there is a swimming pool, sports facilities and playgrounds. Unlike Sunny Beach, it has a more family-like and relaxed atmosphere. Those looking for active entertainment can take a bus to any of the neighboring large resorts.

Nessebar
Modern Nessebar (Nessebar) and the southern outskirts of Sunny Beach smoothly merge into each other. Along the coastline, the border between the two resorts is a large water park with a rather loud music accompaniment
However, there is one big difference between Sunny Beach and Nessebar: Sunny Beach appeared only in the 1950s, and Nessebar was founded by the Thracians already in the II century BC. e. New buildings, which have grown in our time, with residential areas, shops, restaurants, hotels and the Luna Park fairground are spreading inland. Opposite them, on a peninsula connected to the land by a narrow pier, the old Nessebar rises.

Church of the Almighty
The Church of Christ Pantocrator (Christ Pantokrator) houses an art gallery of local artists. Built in the 13th century, it is especially interesting for its facade, decorated in the Turkish style with decorative arches with colored ceramics and alternating rows of stone and brick, forming a striped pattern on the facade. A very ancient element, generally pagan, has been preserved in the decoration of the eastern apse: it is a decorative frieze with a swastika.

St. John the Baptist
Built in the XI century. the Church of St. John the Baptist (St. John the Baptist) with a powerful, almost devoid of decorations, buta facade. Remnants of frescoes have been preserved in the three-nave interior. This church also serves as a gallery; in the summer there are wonderful classical music concerts every week.

Ethnographical museum
There is a very interesting Ethnographic Museum in Nessebar. It was created in a typical National Renaissance house. Its second floor is decorated with fine wood carvings, while the first floor is built of rough stone and was intended for storage rooms and workshops.

St. Stephen's Church
This is the only church in which the multicolored frescoes of the 16th-17th centuries have been perfectly preserved. The frescoes depict biblical scenes, among which the scene of the Last Judgment stands out, and portraits of patrons who supported the church with their donations. In the narthex there is an image of a medieval ship carved into plaster. The premises of the church are decorated with a magnificent iconostasis and a pulpit (18th century) with skillful carving and gilding.

Captain's house
The old captain's house (Kapetanska Sreshta) of the 19th century, located high above the port of Nessebar The rooms on the first floor lined with dark wood, where goods and tools were stored, are today used as restaurant halls on cold days. But it is much more pleasant to sit outside with a view of the Black Sea and the sparkling lights of the beach and hotel area of Nessebar. True, the idyll is somewhat spoiled by the view of the bazaar at the bottom of the port, which from a height looks like a chaotic jumble of tent tarpaulins, cardboard and scraps of plastic. On its shelves there is everything that is legally and illegally supplied from the nearest Turkey, as well as products of sewing factories in Bulgaria.

Beaches around Nessebar
The southern coast of the peninsula is surrounded in places by a narrow, in places wider pebble beach, on which many of those working in Old Nessebar spend their lunch break. Unfortunately, the beach is not cleaned, so it is more suitable for a quick plunge into the water than to lie here.

the red wide sandy beach is located along the spit that juts out into the bay to the south all the way to Pomorie. During the time of socialism, hotels and departmental rest houses were built here, most of which are still working for Bulgarian vacationers. In addition, a lot of people come to this beach for one day, so it is usually crowded here.
The third beach surrounds the bay between New Nessebar and Sunny Beach to the north of the new quarters. This beach is also busy in the summer months, although the rest there is greatly hampered by loud music from the Aqua Park, which is located nearby in Sunny Beach.

Guests of Nessebar can find the best conditions for swimming in Sunny Beach, where buses and tourist trains leave from the bus station in front of the city wall several times an hour. When the sea is calm, boats leave there every hour.

An inconspicuous town of Ravda is nestled 3 km south of Nessebar. This is an ideal place for those who would like to live or dine near the very expensive Nessebar for a reasonable price and still find a good beach. The local sandy beach very gently goes into the sea, which is especially appreciated by families with small children. Although Ravda is gradually catching up with Nessebar in terms of its tourist infrastructure, it still remains a small, cozy vacation spot for lovers of seclusion.

Pomorie
About 14 km south of Nessebar, at the southern end of Lake Pomorie, lies the modern town of Pomorie Lake Pomorie (Pomorie Jezero) is a lagoon separated by a sand dune from the sea, in which salt was obtained by evaporation since ancient times.
Pomorie is still the most important supplier of salt for Bulgaria, and also provides the mineral resorts of Bulgaria with curative mud. Hotels in Pomorie also offer healing procedures. But the condition of these hotels may not please you entirely. Despite the modern hotel complex, which quickly grew here literally on the sand, the beautiful sandy beach of Pomorie now makes a rather depressing impression. However, tourists often drop in here, because it is in Pomorie that the best cognac in Bulgaria, Black Sea Gold, is produced and sold from the factory.

On the spit of the peninsula, among the new buildings, curious visitors can see several houses of the National Renaissance. Once in Pomorie there was the same Old Town as in Nessebar, but most of its houses were destroyed during a fire in 1906. On the western side of the Old Town there is the monastery of St. George, founded in the 12th century, but which has come down to us in the architectural appearance of the XIX century. This is the only monastery on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast where monks still live. Back at the end of the XX century. the pious brothers made their own wine, but since only a few monks remained here, the monastery vineyards were leased. Visitors who politely ask to let them in through the gate are usually allowed to view the monastery, which houses a small collection of 18th and 19th century icons.

The modern Salt Museum on the Pomorsko Lake tells about the technology of salt extraction and the healing properties of salt mud. Unfortunately, it is not always open.

Burgas
Being both a port city, a base for a petrochemical complex and a destination for charter flights for holidaymakers on the southern coast of Bulgaria, Burgas is very diverse. On the outskirts, guests are greeted by a city of modern panel quarters and industrial enterprises, while the city center with its vast Primorsky Park and beautiful pedestrian zone is charming and friendly.

The central square with the railway and bus stations, Garov square, is located in the southern part of the Old Town, southwest of the Primorsky Park. Pedestrian area on the street. Alexandrovskaya, surrounded by tall trees, street cafes and shops, leads from the square to the north, past the high-rise hotel "Bulgaria", where the pedestrian zone of Aleko Bogoridi Boulevard with beautifully renovated classic houses begins on the right.
Here, the small Archaeological Museum displays a collection of finds from the Roman, Greek and Thracian eras.

Most of the guests of Burgas prefer to spend time in shops and restaurants. For the Bulgarian wallet, their assortment is too expensive, but this does not reduce the number of visitors. Tourists with a reserve of euros can shop here quite cheaply. Branded clothes, shoes and watches are usually authentic here, as many companies have branches in Bulgaria. But here they are much cheaper than in Western European stores. However, at the same time you need to understand at least a little about the goods and be sure to check their quality and brand name.

Ethnographic Museum of Burgas
In a typical Bulgarian Renaissance building with a beautiful garden around this museum is located with a collection of national costumes, furniture and household items from the southern Black Sea region. Among the most interesting exhibits are the fearsome masks and kukeri fur costumes, with the help of which, in some regions, winter spirits are still expelled and fertility is invoked for the new agricultural year. There are also exhibited costumes of nestinars, firewalkers from the southern Bulgarian village of Bulgari.

In the north-east, st. St. Cyril and Methodius flows into the Democracy Boulevard, which leads along the Seaside Park (Morska Gradina) back to the bus station. Many restaurants in Burgas offer to relax and eat in the cool of greenery or with a beautiful view of the sea, slightly spoiled, however, by oil tankers and container carriers. It is better to refrain from swimming on the open beach of the park due to poor water quality.

Burgas lakes
The largest wet biotope in Bulgaria lies in front of the very gates of the port city.It consists of four shallow lakes: Poda, Mandrenskoe, Vaya and Atanas, where you can observe two thirds of the bird species inhabiting Bulgaria. This 9,500-hectare area also serves as a long-awaited resting place for flocks of migratory birds as they migrate along Via Ponticum. Hundreds of thousands of birds gather around Burgas in spring and autumn.

Poda Nature Reserve
The reserve is located 8 km south of Bourgas on the road to Sozopol. Through the telescopes installed on the roof, visitors can observe Dalmatian Pelicans, Red-necked Geese, Avocets, Corncrake and Gulls. During the migratory season, storks, spotted eagles and many other winged travelers gather here in flocks.

Chernomorets
In the resort of Chernomorets, which is a few kilometers north of Sozopol, there is a beautifully maintained city park and a wonderful city beach, which were chosen by the guests of the local campsites, mainly local residents. There are several restaurants in the pretty town center.

Sozopl
Driving south along the coast to the artistic town of Sozopol (Sozopol), the road passes through an amazing landscape of lagoons and lakes.
This area, protected as a nature reserve and a bird nesting area, can only be visited as part of a guided tour. The abundance of birds will provide an opportunity for those interested in ornithology to observe rare species of waterfowl and migratory birds.

Like Nessebar, Sozopol consists of the New Town (east of the peninsula) and a spit that juts out far into the sea to the north, inhabited in Thracian times, on which stands the Old Town with architecture in the style of the Bulgarian Revival

St. John's Island
Right in front of Sozopol in the sea rises an island - the largest on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. In the XIII century. an Orthodox monastery was built here, from which only ruins now remain. Today St. John's Island serves as a bird sanctuary, where, among other things, you can observe pygmy cormorants. From the pier on the street. For a small fee, Kraibrezhna you can sail to the island by fishing boat.

Sozopol beaches
There are two city beaches in Sozopol, both located in the eastern part of the peninsula. One borders the park area, the other extends south of the hill on which the modern district of Harmanite stands, along the coastal road towards Tsarevo. Both beaches are wide, with fine sand, equipped with sun umbrellas and sun loungers and provide a full range of sports equipment for all kinds of water and beach activities.

So far, both beaches are firmly occupied by local residents, but every year more and more holidaymakers from other Eastern European countries are added to them. In the summer months it is almost impossible to find a free space - therefore we recommend visiting the beach of the Zolotaya Rybka camping in the north or Smokinia in the south. Almost all hotels in Sozopol are concentrated in Harmanite.

Smokinia beach
South of the city, the coastline with its beautiful, unspoiled sandy beaches is framed by copses. Tourists, mainly from Eastern European countries, set up their tents in the shade of trees at numerous, simply equipped tent sites. Located 4 km south of Smokinia, a gently sloping beach up to 100 m wide is open not only to tent dwellers and is very popular with young Bulgarians. In general, it is not forbidden to even put up a tent somewhere "wildly". The health and safety of visitors is ensured by a couple of unpretentious beach bars and swimming instructors, especially attentive due to the frequent strong waves.

Dunes
Dunes, a four-star resort that climbs the hills above the beach, is built in part in the local Renaissance style (Pelican Wing). Here, a wide range of sports and entertainment programs is a whole independent vacation world, where sports lovers and families with children can have an excellent vacation. But the real Bulgaria is practically not felt here. If you like to walk and watch birds, then in any case you will be satisfied, because the Alepu reserve, a country of lakes and swamps, where paths and bridges are laid for tourists, is very close. Thickets of sedges and reeds provide a safe haven for hoopoes, scops owls, red-headed diving and many other bird species.

Rpotamo river
5 km south of Dunes, the coastal road E87 makes a significant detour inland and crosses the Ropotamo River across the bridge. Shortly before the bridge, the road to the Arkutino pond with water lilies departs to the right. True, it is worth going to look at it only in June, during the flowering of water lilies. The beach of the same name with high dunes borders the river mouth. A rare for Bulgaria and strictly protected species of sand lilies grow here. The river, only 20 km long, on its way from the Strandzha mountains to the Black Sea flows through a valley with dense vegetation, where bizarre rock formations rise above oak and beech forests, overgrown with lianas and ivy, for example, the Lion's Head (Liavskata head).
Travel agencies organize boat excursions around Ropotamo, mainly on the section from the bridge to the mouth, some then go out to sea and go around the Serpentine (Zmiiski) island, which, like the mouth of Ropotamo, is a protected area. Along the way, you can spot local birds such as purple herons, pelicans and blue kingfishers. Sometimes you can even see sea turtles and snakes. A two-hour sea excursion can be booked at all travel agencies and hotels, or you can arrange with the boatmen right at the pier near the bridge.

Primorsko
The town of Primorsko, 22 km from Sozopol, was once widely known outside of Bulgaria for its International Youth Center. Here, young people from the Eastern Bloc countries spent their holidays in simple hostels.
After the collapse of the block, the center existed for several more years as a youth camp, then it closed, and in 2005, after a thorough reconstruction, it reopened. But the country dacha of the last communist president Todor Zhivkov, standing on a beautifully arched sandy shore north of Primorsko, has been perfectly preserved, despite all the changes. It is still used by the political elite.

To the south of Primorsko there is also a beautiful sandy beach, which stretches, sometimes interrupted by small rocky promontories, almost to the neighboring Tsarev, which is 15 km away.A dense belt of greenery frames this part of the coast and gives coolness and shade to the campsites lined up along the entire coast. The private hotel sector and tent sites are usually filled with Bulgarians and Czechs. But around the former Youth Center, 2 km south of Primorsko, tourism managers are beginning to actively explore the beaches and surrounding areas. For example, the four-star Magnolia club, built for the French, has already opened.

Kiten
From a purely Bulgarian vacation spot for working people with large departmental boarding houses, it has turned into a beautiful and comfortable resort, attracting, among other things, a foreign public. Numerous restaurants and boutiques vied with each other to beckon guests and shoppers.
To the north of Kiten there is a sandy beach, which is always quite crowded, while the more rocky and wind-open shores south of the village are favored by surfers.

Tsarevo and Ahtopol
The stretch of coastline from here to the south is considered the best windsurfing coastline in Bulgaria, and the Bulgarka Camping near Tsarevo serves as a meeting point for surfers. Tsarevo itself is somewhat reminiscent of the long-forgotten cities of the Wild West. Behind it, the E87 highway turns inland towards Malko Tarnovo, and only one very bumpy country road runs along the coast, still indented by capes and bays, further south to Ahtopol (Ahtopol). Picturesquely located on a peninsula, surrounded on both sides by beautiful bays, Ahtopol remains a relatively inexpensive resort, popular mainly among Bulgarian tourists.

Sinemorets
Soon this place will change, since the coast between Ahtopol and Sinemorets, located 8 km away, has become fashionable among the creative intelligentsia and wealthy citizens. Now it is being actively bought up and built up. In addition to the holiday homes, further south there is an all-inclusive enclave that only accepts tourist groups from Western Europe, the Bella Vista Beach Club.

The northern beach of Sinemorets is a strip of fine sand in front of the mouth of the Velika River. Here fresh and salt water are very close to each other. On the southern beach, rocky headlands are surrounded by sandy coves, and they are quite loyal to nudists.

Strandzha National Park
A mountainous, densely forested part of the mainland off the southern coast, the large Strandzha National Park (up to 700 m above sea level) is a wonderful but challenging place for hiking. The main purpose of day and multi-day excursions in the National Park is usually karst formations - caves, gaps and unusual weathered figures among the rocks.
Trips to cultural treasures such as churches and monasteries in small old villages are also popular.
The flora and fauna here is extremely diverse: in addition to wild boars and red deer, wolves live in this area, in spring black storks build their nests on bell towers, holly, laurel and rhododendron grow near water bodies. |

The coast of Bulgaria is the eastern border of the country and stretches along the Black Sea coastline for more than 400 km. Cape Emine divides the territory of the Black Sea Bulgarian coast into two parts: northern and southern.

The northern part attracts the attention of tourists who prefer active leisure, who are fond of rock climbing, mountain biking, surfing or extreme rafting on rough mountain rivers, with its steep cliffs, rocky headlands that reach about 60 m in height. The southern part of the coast is gently sloping, known for its wide golden beaches.

The geographical orientation of the beaches to the east, towards the rising sun, makes it possible for tourists and travelers to sunbathe in the morning. A characteristic feature of the beaches is a slight fluctuation in the water level during the ebb and flow, moderately salty water compared to the Mediterranean Sea. The shallow depth of the beaches here allows families with children and the elderly to relax. The mild climate ensures the length of the beach season, which lasts from May to October.

Popular seaside resorts

Resorts

The most famous resorts of the region: Elenite, Dyuny, Nessebar, Pomorie, Primorsko, Sveti Vlas, Sozopol, Sunny Beach, Tsarevo. All South Coast resorts are served by an international airport in Burgas.

Sunny Beach Is one of the most popular tourist centers in Bulgaria. It is located 35 km north of Burgas near the ancient town of Nessebar. This is the largest resort in the country, which got its name from the golden sandy beaches that stretch in a semicircle for 10 km along the coast. Sunny Beach is located in an ecologically clean area, far from major transport routes and big cities. The fine sand and gently sloping entrance make the resort an ideal destination for families with children. Here you will be offered a variety of sports activities: water skiing, catamarans, banana boats and jet skis, windsurfing and parasailing, as well as volleyball, tennis, bowling, horse riding and more. In the north, Sunny Beach ends with the heights of the Stara Planina massif, where you can go in for mountain tourism and enjoy hiking and horseback riding. In summer, the resort is always full of young people. Discos in Sunny Beach are known far beyond its borders. Many of them are held right in the open air, for example, on the popular Cacao Beach, where the most fashionable DJs in Europe rule the show.

Near Sunny Beach is Nessebar- a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a historical city that belonged to the ancient Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans at different times. Holidays in Nessebar will be remembered by you for the unique atmosphere of the Old Town, which is created by the ruins of medieval temples, fortress walls and the ancient port, as well as old houses decorated with wooden bay windows and cobblestone streets. Ethnographic and archaeological museums are interesting to visit, where you can see gold jewelry and coins of the 4th-1st centuries BC. BC, antique figural ceramics, an impressive collection of icons, traditional Bulgarian jewelry and costumes. But in Nessebar, guests of Bulgaria will have not only a fascinating journey "into the depths of centuries". Comfortable hotels have been built here, offering accommodation for different categories of tourists, many restaurants and taverns are open, where they prepare amazingly delicious dishes from fresh seafood, including shark meat, lobster tail and mussels in batter.

Resort town Primorskolocated on the picturesque peninsula of the South Coast, at the foot of the Strandja Mountains, in a protected area with untouched forests, unique rock formations and a rich historical past. Until recently, these places were closed to tourists, as there was a government residence near the resort. Now a large children's and youth center has been built here, and the developed infrastructure of the resort can satisfy, perhaps, any requests of tourists. Arriving on vacation in Primorsko, you can go parasailing, fly a motor hang-glider, ride a scooter, boat, boat and catamaran, play football, volleyball, basketball, billiards, visit tennis courts. And also the AquaPlanet water park - one of the most famous on the Black Sea coast - awaits adults and young guests of the resort. It includes large and small pools, breathtaking water rides, winding tunnels and an artificial river. Primorsko is also famous for monuments of national culture and history, which include the remains of the ancient city of Ranuli at Cape Maslen Nos, the Church of St. Paraskeva and the observatory-sanctuary of Begliktash. And on the territory of the Ropotamo reserve, located not far from Primorsko, there are rare species of plants and animals. Another protected place, a few kilometers from Primorsko, is the Arkutino Botanical Garden, where you can see an amazing plant - a water rose.

Pomorieis located on a narrow picturesque rocky peninsula 10 km north-east of Burgas and 20 km from Sunny Beach. This Bulgarian resort has long been known for its unique healing potential. Even the ancient Thracians called the area "sacred" because of its salt lakes and healing mud. The first mud baths in Pomorie was opened in 1902, and now Spa tourism is actively developing here. In addition, the sea is very clean here, the resort has repeatedly received the Blue Flag award for the environment. Most of the beaches in and around Pomorie have dark, grayish sand due to the high iron content. Such sand is very useful in the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. The sights of the city include the Salt Museum, the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord and the Orthodox Monastery of St. George the Victorious, as well as the architectural reserve "Old Houses of Pomorie" - this is the name of the quarter of houses of the 19th century. The resort often hosts concerts, poetry evenings and theatrical performances. While resting here, you can go on an excursion with a tasting to the Pomorie wine cellar, rent a sailing boat, go windsurfing, parasailing or go fishing.

Saint Vlas Is a promising young resort for family recreation, located just three kilometers from the famous Sunny Beach. Recently, many luxury hotels have been built here, while each hotel complex has its own territory with pools and bars, playgrounds and sports. In Sveti Vlas, you can enjoy a relaxing holiday in a cozy environment. And if you want more active leisure, go to the discos of neighboring Sunny Beach, on excursions to Burgas or Nessebar.

Tsarevois located on two picturesque peninsulas, in the very south of the coast, near the border with Turkey and 65 km from Burgas. This Black Sea resort is famous for its mild climate and picturesque landscapes. The resort is far from big cities and highways, therefore it is very popular among married couples, among those who value tranquility and measured pace of life. Tsarevo is also popular among fans of ecotourism, fishing and yachtsmen. The resort often hosts regattas and other water competitions. This area of the Bulgarian coast is often referred to as the Center for Nestinarism - this is a religious and cultural phenomenon in Bulgaria, which combines pagan and Orthodox traditions. Nestinars live in the villages near Tsarevo, who are often invited to folklore evenings, where they dance on hot coals in honor of Saints Constantine and Helena. Among the local attractions are the Ancient Ahtopol Wall, the Medieval Fortress, the Churches of the Assumption of the Virgin, St. Panteleimon, St. Cyril and Methodius, the Thracian ruins, as well as the museum with the remains of the Bulgarian ship "Goryanin".

Elenite- a cozy resort village located at the foot of Stara Planina. Mighty mountain peaks reliably protect the area from northern winds, due to which a particularly mild and warm microclimate has been formed here. From time immemorial, this fertile land is buried in dense coniferous forests, which saturate the air with healing volatile phytoncides. Here, on the Black Sea coast, "ringed" with relict pines, you can finally escape from the hustle and bustle and devote time to relaxation and restoration of mental strength. The resort offers comfortable hotels, a spacious sandy beach, the purest clear water and a variety of entertainment for adults and children: surfing, yachting, water slides, banana rides and water bicycles, beach soccer and volleyball. The resort also has its own water park.

DunesIs one of the youngest and most popular tourist centers in Bulgaria. It was built quite recently, in the late 80s, 40 km south of Burgas in the territory of a natural park. The resort got its name from the magnificent sand dunes that stretch along the coast for four and a half kilometers. Local beaches have been awarded the honorary "Blue Flag" for their environmental friendliness for several years. The sea here is calm, with a gentle entrance and a sandy bottom, which makes it safe even for little ones. A wide variety of entertainment options are available. Here you can go horseback riding in the picturesque Strandzha Mountains, go sailing and windsurfing, play tennis and mini golf. In the evenings, the local amphitheater plays live music and entertainment shows.

Resort town Sozopolwas founded back in 610 BC. Greek colonialists on a small rocky peninsula 30 km from Burgas. Rest here, for sure, will appeal to romantic natures. Old red-tiled houses, beautiful churches, narrow cobbled streets lined with green grapes and figs, a picturesque harbor, sandy beaches and fantastic sea views - what could be more inspiring? Lovers of historical sights in Sozopol will not be bored either. Here you can see the majestic temples of the Bulgarian National Revival, including the Church of St. George, the Church of the Holy Mother of God, as well as explore the ruins of the fortress walls. And just one kilometer from the resort is the island of St. Ivan - the largest in Bulgaria. In 2010, the relics of St. John the Baptist were discovered here, which are now kept in the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius in Sozopol itself. And for those who like to enjoy the natural beauty, we recommend going on an excursion to the mouth of the Ropotamo River, which is often compared to the Amazon in its beauty and richness of flora and fauna. In this "paradise", lost in the emerald green of wild vineyards, you can listen to the ringing trills of exotic birds, watch the calm turtles and admire the delicate beauty of quivering lilies, "crowning" the mirror water surface. The reserve is located 20 km from the city.

Climate

The climate of the southern coast is close to the Mediterranean type, the air and sea temperatures are one to two degrees higher than on the north coast of Bulgaria.

Beaches and swimming season

The south coast is characterized by wide beaches with sand dunes and a gentle entrance to the sea. The swimming season lasts from the second half of May to the end of September.

Resorts of Burgas:

Burgas

Burgas

One of the largest cities in Bulgaria, Burgas is located in the eastern part of the Burgas Bay, 385 km from Sofia and 130 km from Varna. Rest in Burgas attracts tourists with the opportunity to visit interesting excursion and natural sites, exhibitions, concerts.

Dunes

The Dyuni resort is located 40 km from Bourgas and 7 km from Sozopol, on the territory of a nature reserve. The beach here is wide - about 100 m, with numerous sand dunes, the sea is shallow and calm. The proximity of the mountains, on the one hand, and the sea, on the other, as well as the green spaces of the natural park, make up the special charm of this resort and create a healing microclimate in the Dunes.

Elenite

The modern and comfortable Bulgarian resort Elenite is located 8 km from Sunny Beach and 45 km from Burgas International Airport. Tours to Elenite are popular due to the special microclimate, lack of winds, gentle sandy strip and developed infrastructure. Rest here is calm and unhurried, vouchers to Elenite are readily purchased by families with children, for whom all conditions for good rest are created here.

Nessebar and Ravda

Nessebar, which can be conditionally divided into New and Old Nessebar, as well as the adjoining resort village of Ravda are located in the vicinity of the large Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach and offer excellent conditions for your summer family holidays, as well as for a relaxing holiday and acquaintance with the unique sights of this region.

Pomorie

One of the health resorts in Bulgaria - Pomorie - has been famous for its unique healing mud since ancient times. The resort is located on a picturesque rocky peninsula 20 km from Sunny Beach and 10 km from Burgas. Pomorie is surrounded by salt lakes - Small Salt and Pomorie, between which there are medical sanatoriums.

Primorsko

Located on the picturesque peninsula of the South Coast, at the foot of the Strandzha Mountains, the Primorsko resort offers tourists all the conditions for a measured and memorable family holiday: beautiful nature, excellent sandy beaches, opportunities for various sports, a water park, historical sights.

This is not a story about any one particular journey. Several times I went on vacation to Bulgaria, in the last two years to the South coast - resorts located in the area of the city of Burgas. And now I just want to describe some of the resorts and cities where I managed to visit. Maybe it will help someone when choosing a vacation spot.

So the South Coast is the biggest city Burgas - where the plane actually arrives. The airport is located to the north of the city, so if you go from the airport to the resorts of Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Pomorie and St. Vlas, you do not need to drive through the city. But Sozopol is on the other side of Burgas - to the south. Burgas airport website: www.burgas-airport.bg.

Sunny Beach

About the resort: Sunny Beach is located about 35 km from Bourgas, and it is perhaps already the largest resort on the Bulgarian coast. There is also Golden Sands on the northern coast, but Sunny Beach has grown much more. In fact, this is a whole city consisting only of hotels, cafes, shops, restaurants, clubs. A city for tourists. The entertainment industry is in full swing here. Nightlife is in full swing. Party place. If you need a lot of entertainment, this is the place for you!

Quite a lot of Germans, Dutch, Scandinavians, British, French, well, Russians, of course, rest here. Many, for example, rent apartments for the whole summer. New hotels are constantly being built here or existing ones are being remodeled. But the construction site is frozen for the summer, so there is no need to be afraid of cranes working under the window.

From all this one may get the impression that everyone is just horror-horror - all around there are some crazy teenagers hanging out. But this is not so - people of absolutely different ages rest here, both couples with children and elderly people. Although there are a lot of tourists, especially in the peak season of July - August, there is somehow enough space for everyone. The downside, in my opinion, is mainly that Sunny Beach is like such a reservation for tourists, a little impersonal, it is quite another thing to live in small Bulgarian towns, where the locals live. And yet, it is not at all a fact that there will not be a cafe or discotheque under the windows of your hotel, where music will play until late.

But I love Sunny Beach, nevertheless, because if you don't want to go to the club in the evening, you don't have to walk, but peacefully sit on the balcony in your hotel, and if you want - please, you can go - everything is nearby. And also in Sunny Beach there is a long - long wide sandy beach. The beach stretches for eight kilometers. Somewhere the beach strip is very wide, somewhere narrower.

Sunny Beach occupies a whole bay, on one side of it - in the north there will be the resort of St. Vlas, on the other - in the south - Nessebar. And to that, and to the other, in principle, if you wish, you can walk along the beach. And so there are such tourist trains running around the resort, they can be taken from more remote areas to the center, the fare on them costs about 1 euro.

Hotels: hotels located on the first line to the sea are located, as a rule, from the beach across the promenade - a promenade lined with cafes and shops. Very few hotels have direct access to the beach and not the promenade. One of such exceptions is the Burgas 4 * hotel, for example, and the Europe 3 * hotel. Sun loungers and umbrellas on the beaches are paid - they are not cheap - about 3 euros for a sunbed and the same for an umbrella, also with very rare exceptions, they are free near the hotel pools.

The center of Sunny Beach is conventionally the hotels "Kuban", "Globus" - this is the central alley of the resort, overlooking this very promenade embankment. The main evening - night party is concentrated here. It's okay that the hotel is not on the first line by the sea, in my opinion, no. I myself once lived in the Trakia hotel - this can probably even be considered the third line, although it is difficult to define these very "lines" there. And it's okay - seven minutes walk to the sea.

Some of the hotels seem to stand apart, although they are also considered Sunny Beach, but in reality they are located between the central part of Sunny Beach and Nessebar. A very good area of residence for someone who does not seem to want to live in a very quiet place, but still, an active social life is not needed every day. These are the hotels "Amphora", "Kotva", "Imperial", "Nobel" and a number of others. The center of the resort is 30-40 minutes walk from here, or you can take a train. Here, the beach is wider than in the very center, mainly due to the strip of sand dunes that must be passed before you get to the beach itself. And sun loungers with umbrellas are not so tight - more space. And still very close to walk to Nessebar. In this area I also lived in the "Amfora" 3 * hotel - very conveniently located, right by the beach.

The shops: a highway runs through Sunny Beach along its entire length, and the resort is conventionally divided into two parts: the one between the sea and this highway, and the one beyond the highway. So, all shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants that are located off the highway are usually cheaper. And sometimes it is very noticeable.

Food can be bought at every turn. But the prices are not low, only the prices for wine are encouraging - a bottle of good wine costs 2-5 euros. Of the souvenirs, in my opinion, the most useful acquisition is Bulgarian cosmetics based on rose oil, as well as ceramic dishes, embroidered tablecloths in the national style and silver jewelry. Shops for clothes, shoes, bags and all kinds of beach accessories are also at every turn. In general, money travels quickly.

Cafes, restaurants: There are a lot of cafes and restaurants in the resort! It's a pleasure to walk on them. Nowadays, many hotels make an all-inclusive system. But, she is not needed there! Although, this is my personal opinion. And most likely, going to restaurants you will spend more in total than if you took this all inclusive at once. But what freedom of choice! Very often in restaurants in the evening there is live music or some kind of folklore program .. The food in the restaurants is delicious and a lot! A portion can often be taken by two. Lunch in a restaurant with wine will cost about ten euros per person. And again, everything behind the road is cheaper. If you move away from the sea, then you can eat well for 5-6 euros. As a rule, the menu is already everywhere in Russian, and in some places even with pictures of dishes for those who do not understand what it is by the name.

The most famous dishes of Bulgarian cuisine: Shopska salad, moussaka, kebapche - minced meat cutlets with spices, various soups - tarator, chicken (soup pill), beans, dishes with feta cheese, for example Shopski sirené - baked mixture of feta cheese, eggs and tomatoes, and many other goodies ... All this is washed down, of course, with wine or brandy - a tincture of forty degrees, it can be different - grape, plum. The main phrase in Bulgarian is “Healthy!” Which means, of course - To health!

Transport: Ideally, of course, rent a car. If this is not possible, then it is quite possible to travel along the coast by yourself on regular buses. The bus station in Sunny Beach is across the street from the Svezhest Hotel. Bus connections with other cities are good. You can also travel around the country yourself. The schedule for all flights hangs next to the ticket office. Buses to Burgas and Nessebar run frequently - every 15-20 minutes. Buses to Varna - several times a day. There are buses to Sofia, Plovdiv and other cities.
The fare from Sunny Beach to Nessebar is about? euros, to Burgas 2.5 euros, to Sozopol 5 euros.

Nessebar

The city is divided into two parts - New Nessebar and Old Nessebar. They are connected to each other by a narrow isthmus. Old Nessebar - one of my favorite places on the Bulgarian coast - is located on a small peninsula. Narrow streets, red roofs, old churches, houses with second floors hanging over the streets typical of old Bulgarian towns, restaurants, souvenir shops.

The ancient name of Nessebar is Mesambria. His history is very rich and, of course, inextricably linked with the sea and sea trade. The city belonged to Greeks, Romans, Byzantium, Turks. The most preserved ancient monuments are the walls of the Old Town and the churches. Some of them are now open art galleries, and some are only walls. The city is very cozy and different all the time. And in the Old City, in the evenings, some open-air concerts are periodically held, most often in the amphitheater near the port.

Useful sites:

www.ancient-nessebar.com - history and museum of Nessebar

Hotels and beaches: most of the hotels are located in the New part of the city. There are also small hotels in Old Nessebar, but our travel agencies practically do not sell them at all. In the Old Town there are two small beaches covered with a shallow shell. In the New Town there is a long sandy beach, which smoothly flows into a nudist one at the end. There are hotels that stand right along this beach - "Biljana Beach", "Aphrodite", but most of the hotels are located on the streets of the New part of the city, there are also private houses, shops, and cafes - everything is nearby, and 10 minutes walk to the beach -fifteen. You can walk to the beach of Nessebar, or you can go down in the other direction (the new part of Nessebar stands on a hill above the sea) - and go to the beach of Sunny Beach, depending on where the hotel is located. There is, for example, such a hotel "Festa Panorama", so it is generally close to the beach in Sunny Beach.

Transport: You can take a small train to Sunny Beach, but it will take you not to the center, but to the beginning of the resort, in order to get to the center of Sunny Beach, you will have to change again. It is more convenient to go by bus. The bus stop is located right at the entrance to the Old Town. From here you can get to Sunny Beach, Pomorie, Burgas and Varna. There are also several bus stops in the New part of the city - that is, if you live there, you don't have to stomp on the ring, you can hop on this bus there too. But you can walk to Sunny Beach on foot - first along the embankment along the sea, and then along the beach.

Cafes and shops: the whole Old Town is filled with souvenir shops! Sometimes too much. There are a lot of cafes, as elsewhere. Prices are higher in the Old Town, especially in restaurants overlooking the sea.

Saint Vlas

A small modern resort town located near Sunny Beach - about 5 km to the north. You can also get to it, in principle, on foot along the sea or take a bus. Now a lot is being built here - mostly aparthotels. They have already built up literally the entire area between the sea and the highway along which buses actually go. In such hotels, rooms are usually two or three rooms with kitchens, you can rent them for a long time. On St. Vlas, there is an immediate ascent uphill from the sea, which is not the case in Sunny Beach, where the terrain is absolutely flat. Cafes and shops are cheaper if you go up the highway.

Excursion to Sofia also takes two days, on the way also includes a visit to the Rila Monastery - a stunningly beautiful place in the mountains. The tour costs about 95 euros. Useful sites: www.sofia.bg and www.sofiacityguide.bg.

Excursion Varna - Balchik - on the northern coast of Bulgaria, visiting the city of Varna, the rocky monastery of Aladzha near Golden Sands, the botanical garden and the palace of the Romanian queen in Balchik. It costs about 40 euros. Again, quite a bit of time is allocated for all the very interesting sights. But on excursions it is always like that. The site of the city of Varna: www.aboutvarna.ru.

Excursion to Sozopol (unless, of course, you live there, but live, for example, in Sunny Beach) takes almost a whole day. It is usually combined with an excursion to the Ropotamo nature reserve, which is located near Sozopol. The cost is 30 euros.

And of course everyone's favorite evening programs "Bulgarian Village"! Dinner at a national restaurant with a folklore program and tap wine! It costs about 25 euros. On the way back, everyone sings on the bus.

Yes, Bulgaria is still a good country ...

The southern Black Sea coast of Bulgaria is the cleanest sea with sandy beaches and natural dunes.

Small town located between Varna and Burgas... Obzor is a quiet and beautiful seaside resort with spacious beaches, fresh mountain air and beautiful surroundings. A rare combination of sea and mountain air contributes to climatotherapy and prevention of many diseases, both in adults and children. A lot of young people, families with children rest at the resort. There are many small cozy cottages, private boarding houses, family villas. On the territory of the resort, you can easily find many private sectors and apartments with all the necessary conditions.

The sea here is always 3-5 degrees warmer than in Albena and Golden Sands... On the beach Review many cafes and restaurants are open, there is an entertainment center "Castle", various water activities (catamarans, jet skis, bananas). It is mainly for families with children who prefer a quieter vacation than in busy resorts.

Sunny Beach

This resort is located on the coast of the Burgas Bay. Here is the longest beach strip, its length is about 10 km, and the width in some places reaches 200 meters. The sea is clean. There are more than a hundred hotels and nearly one and a half hundred restaurants, sports bars, nightclubs, cafes and discos along the beach. There are medical and information centers on the beach.

For children, there are children's pools, playgrounds, experienced animators, educators who work around the clock. While the kids are busy in the centers, parents can afford the rest as they see fit.

The beaches are equipped with sports grounds, there is mini golf, beach volleyball, tennis courts, bowling, fitness rooms.

There is a water park 10 km from the resort. Moreover, on Sunny Beach hotels are located along the beach and you don't have to go down the mountain or stairs to the sea.

This resort is not deprived of the attention of young people on holiday: modern discos and nightclubs gather a cheerful party on Sunny Beach all season.

This town is one of the oldest cities in Europe, with a history of more than 5 thousand years. Today the city offers its guests a harmonious mixture of a rich past and a thriving present. The old part of the city is interesting for its wooden architecture, the remains of churches, the city is included in the UNESCO cultural heritage list.

The new part of the city attracts with a 4-kilometer sandy beach in the southern part of the resort and a range of entertainment for every taste. Nessebar allows you to combine a beach holiday at the sea with sightseeing.

Saint Vlas

The resort grew out of a small coastal village. Today it is one of the youngest and most actively developing resorts. It is still not crowded and quiet here, you can enjoy your rest in a cozy atmosphere. The resort is famous for its many small but good quality hotels and guesthouses. There are restaurants and bars, saunas and billiards, fitness and tennis.

The resort is located on a peninsula protruding 5 km into the sea, 10 km from Sunny Beach and Nessebar. The resort was founded near a salt lake and became famous in ancient times for its curative mud, mineral water, iron-containing sand.

Today Pomorie is one of the national marine balneological centers. The resort is considered the warmest in the country... The sea coast is gentle, with spacious beaches and clean fine sand, the sea is shallow, without rocks, and stone breakwaters block the path of cold currents to the swimming areas. In Pomorie there are many hotels of various categories, family boarding houses, medical sanatoriums. The town is very small, but the infrastructure is well developed.

This is a resort for a comfortable family vacation. The weather conditions are especially pleasing here: there is no sweltering heat in the resort, and due to the fact that the Stara Planina mountain covers the village from the north, it is reliably protected from cold winds. This wonderful resort is one of the most environmentally friendly places in the world, making it ideal for relaxation and recovery. Doctors recommend treating lungs and general wellness procedures here.

Elenite offers a wide children's program: water polo, pool games, archery, a variety of entertaining day and evening programs

This holiday village is located in the middle of a nature reserve. Fine golden yellow sand and natural sand dunes - this is the beach strip, 4.5 km long. Its width in some places reaches 100 meters. The sea is calm and safe, the bottom is flat and gentle, convenient for swimming for the smallest tourists.
