State in Southeast Asia. It borders Laos in the northeast, Vietnam in the east and southeast, Thailand in the west and northwest. In the southwest it is washed by the waters of the Gulf of Thailand (Siam). The territory of Cambodia is 181,035 km2. Most of the territory is occupied by lowlands in the lower reaches of the Mekong River. In the southwest lie the Kravan mountains up to 1813 m high. Then the Khmer state began to weaken and after 1620, when the Khmer king Chetta P married a Vietnamese princess, it was actually divided between Vietnam and Siam. In 1863, France intervened in the slow partition of Cambodia between Vietnam and Siam and declared it its protectorate. In 1953, the country gained independence. On April 17, 1975, the Khmer Rouge captured Phnom Penh and Pol Pot's bloody rule began. Almost all city dwellers were evicted to the countryside, the media were banned, money, knowledge of foreign languages \u200b\u200bwas punishable by death. In total, over a million people were killed during the reign of the Khmer Rouge. In 1991, a peace treaty was signed between the Khmer Rouge and the current government, but clashes, especially in the west of the country, continue. Cambodia is a member of the UN.

About 10 years ago, I was lucky enough to visit the Kingdom of Wonders with an excursion. Buying an ordinary 2-day tour on a quiet Thai street, I had no idea how much it would change my life.
