Koh Samui is the third largest island in Thailand. Dimensions - 21x25 km, total area - 250 sq. km. It is located in the southwestern part of the Gulf of Thailand, 30 km from the mainland (from the Surat Thani province) and 690 km from Bangkok. The main city of the island is.

A feature of this resort is the combination of a well-developed infrastructure with uncrowded beaches, clean sea and well-preserved nature. Everyone will like it here. Party-goers on the island will find clubs, bars and other nightlife. Gourmets will indulge in a variety of Thai and international cuisines. Lovers of secluded relaxation will stay in quiet corners, where after sunset, life stops, and you are left alone with nature.

Koh Samui is the third most popular resort in Thailand. Thanks to the presence of the airport, you can quickly and easily get here from anywhere in the country. The authorities are soon planning to make the airport international, which means that it will be possible to fly here directly from Russia and other Western countries.

Koh Samui has a dozen beaches, and very different. Before choosing a place to stay on the island, you need to familiarize yourself in detail with each one, since some are practically "wild", while others, on the contrary, have a lot of hotels, restaurants, bars and nightlife.

Koh Samui is surrounded by a ring road, along which public transport goes. In addition, there are tuk-tuk, motorcycle and air-conditioned taxis, so there will be no problems with movement, you can safely travel from beach to beach and to all the attractions of Samui, of which there are quite a few.

Koh Samui on the map of Thailand

History

The first foreigners who arrived on Koh Samui back in the 70s were hippies. Ordinary tourists followed them. In the mid-80s, local authorities decided to turn Samui into a tourist resort. Construction began on hotels, restaurants, shops and other amenities that Europeans and Americans were so used to. Fortunately, the benefits of civilization were limited only to coastal areas, without affecting the center of the island.

There is still an untouched jungle. By the way, there is no trace left of the hippies and their dilapidated huts, now package tourists and independent travelers stay at the resort.

How to get to Koh Samui

Cheap flights to Bangkok

You can buy air tickets to Thailand as profitably as possible with the help of special search engines that collect data from all airlines.

By bus

Buses run from any city in Thailand. This is a fairly cheap but tiring way to get to Koh Samui. In some cases, there will be several changes along the way. From Bangkok to the pier, transport takes at least 12 hours, from Phuket - 4.5-5 hours. Ferry to the island - 1-1.5 hours.

By land and water

Most ferries leave the mainland from Surat Thani and Chumpon (closer to Koh Tao). A large number of ground transport goes to these places, tickets for which can be bought everywhere in travel agencies or bus stations in cities and resorts in Thailand or. Koh Samui also has a water connection with Koh Tao and Phangan.

From the last tuk-tuk they carry tourists to the beaches. The price is fixed - travel to any settlement costs 60 baht. True, Thais often like to "breed" new arrivals, asking for 100. But if you do not agree to this price, they will take you for the standard 60 baht. Chaweng and Lamai are about 25-35 minutes away. The main road encircles the entire island around the perimeter, sometimes it runs a few meters from the coast (for example, in the north), sometimes a kilometer from it (on Chaweng). There are branches off the Main Road that lead to the beaches.

Transport

There are no problems with getting around on the island. Transportation is provided by public songteos, tuk-tuks, motorcycle taxis, air-conditioned taxis and minivans. In addition, you can rent a motorbike or car on your own.

1. Songteo.

The cheapest way to get around is the songthaews, which are exactly the same as in Pattaya - a pickup truck with two parallel seats. They can take you to any beach except the northeastern ones.

The fare is 50-60 baht per person. If you want to get to the airport and the northeast coast, you can hire an empty songteo as a tuk tuk. In this case, the price is negotiable and, for example, you can get to the airport for 300 baht (not per person, but for the whole car).

2. Air-conditioned taxi.

This is the most expensive mode of transport on Koh Samui, they are ordinary passenger cars painted in bright colors.

While they are few, the competition is small and they ask for large amounts of travel. Meters rarely turn on, usually the price is negotiable and starts at 300 baht between neighboring beaches.

3. Moto taxi.

A ride in the back seat of a motorcycle as a passenger costs, as elsewhere in Thailand, for 1-2 km, about 30 baht. On Koh Samui, the distances are long, so getting from one beach to another (which is 3-4 km) will cost around 100 baht.

4. Minibuses (minivans).

They go from the airport and pier in Nathon, and also deliver tourists to attractions as part of excursions.

5. Transport rent.

The best option for those who come for a long time. There are motorbike rental offices on any beach, as well as on the pier in Nathon, where most ships sail from the mainland. The price depends on the season and location. In Nathon, you can find it for 150 baht per day, and in tourist places for 200 baht.

Who should go to Koh Samui

Holidays on Koh Samui are suitable for those who prioritize the clean sea and uncrowded beaches. If you are interested in a vibrant nightlife with lots of discos, nightclubs, Go Go bars and thousands of affordable girls, then Koh Samui is not for you. In small quantities, it is presented only in Chaweng, and, moreover, it is mainly limited to open-air drinking bars, where you can find a girlfriend for the night. But this is just a pathetic semblance of the fiery Volkin Street in Pattaya or Bangla Road in Phuket.

But lovers of silence and leisurely rest will like Samui.

There are very few people on the beaches, even in the high season from December to March. Here you will not feel the friendly elbow of your neighbor on the sun lounger, simply because they are located at a great distance from each other (unlike Pattaya and Phuket, where the distance between sun loungers is no more than half a meter). Anyway, there are very few sun loungers and umbrellas on Koh Samui, and they are only near hotels.

What to do and what to visit

For an initial acquaintance with the island, we recommend taking a trip to.

For those who like to buy something abroad, the most popular places for shopping are described:.

Beaches

Unlike Phuket, on Koh Samui there is also in the west and in the east, and in the south and in the north. The most popular is Chaweng. The tourist infrastructure is most strongly developed here - many hotels, shops, markets, restaurants, massage parlors, bars and entertainment. During the day you can ride jet skis, ski, bananas and paragliders, and at night make a "raid" on one of the restaurants or bars with girls.

Chaweng is slightly inferior to Lamai, where all the above-mentioned benefits of civilization are less. And even after sunset it is quieter here. All other beaches offer only sea, sun, palm trees, lodging, several mini markets, restaurants and drinking establishments. In the capital of Koh Samui, Nathon, there are almost no tourists, since there is no normal beach. Mostly Thais live here.

Climate

Koh Samui has a humid tropical climate. Throughout the year, the air temperature fluctuates around + 30 ... + 32 (in December-March a little cooler, in April-May - a little hotter). From June to November, there are heavy rains several times a week, which can last for several hours. Rainiest months: May, September, October, November. Driest: January, February, March, April. The sea water temperature is constant and is +27 - +28 degrees.

Probably, many of you have thought at least once about how to go on vacation or travel on your own, without the help of a tour company. But not everyone can easily decide to go somewhere for the first time on their own, especially if you are responsible not only for your vacation, but also for the vacation of the whole family 🙂

In today's article I will give you a complete step-by-step guide on how to travel to Koh Samui on your own. 🙂 We will not discuss whether independent tourism is cheaper or not (there is a lot of controversy on this topic), but most people choose independent travel not because of the cheapness, but for completely different reasons. If you want to go to Samui on a tour voucher, then you can choose and buy it online. If you nevertheless decide to organize your vacation, and maybe even wintering, on your own, then this article is for you 🙂

When to go to Koh Samui or the weather on Koh Samui

Step oneand most importantly: it is necessary to decide in what is the best time of the year to go to Koh Samui, so as not to spend all two weeks of a long-awaited vacation at the hotel waiting out tropical showers 🙂 Of course, many of us depend on the opportunity to take a vacation only at a certain time or on the holidays of children at school. But still, choosing a vacation on Koh Samui, you need to understand when it is season here and when it is not season

The climate of Koh Samui (and its neighboring islands) is somewhat different from that of other parts of Thailand. In the summer, when the rainy season throughout Thailand, the high season begins on Koh Samui (this is especially noticeable in July and August, even prices in these months rise slightly and the beaches, bars, restaurants are filled with numerous European tourists).

There are a lot of Europeans on Koh Samui in August

The wettest month on Koh Samui is November. But also in December - January heavy rains can be found. The hottest and driest months are April and May. But you need to understand that the climate changes every year, the weather constantly brings surprises, so it's impossible to say 100% what the weather will be on Koh Samui, for example, on New Year's. This summer is somewhat unusual for Koh Samui. We have been on the island for almost two months (June 19) and there were very few sunny days during this time. And the last two weeks are generally constantly gray and even cold!

Now Samui has very changeable weather
Trying to fish out sunny days

If you go to any group on Samui VKontakte or Facebook and ask there a question about the weather on Samui, then you will be told that the weather on Samui is always good. “Rain? What rains? There is no rain 🙂 ”And this despite the fact that it actually rains!

You have to understand that living on the island is one thing, but resting is quite another, and if you come for 2-3 weeks, then of course you want sunny weather and bright blue skies 🙂 During our time we found the end of the rainy season, but it was still very unpleasant , when half of the 14 days of vacation were gray or rainy, and if we lived there permanently, then these rains would not bother us much.

Advice: Do not go to Koh Samui in November - early December if you have a negative attitude (like me) about rainy weather. But if you live all your life in St. Petersburg or in Murmansk, and you will not be surprised by the gray weather (unlike me, a Kiev woman who is used to the fact that the sun should be in the summer and the temperature is above +30), then November on Samui will not disappoint you ... Yet it rarely rains for several days in a row.

One day in December….
Gray July days on Koh Samui
In the summer on Koh Samui, sometimes you want to wear a blouse 🙂

Conclusion: in my opinion, the best time for a vacation in Koh Samui is from January-February to March and from May-June to September.

If you are going to Samui on your own not on vacation, but for the winter, then in this case it is best to come to the island early, in October, in order to have time to rent a good house and find a bike at a good price. Well, think, sit for a couple of days in the house in November, it's okay, there will still be time to swim in the sea and sunbathe 🙂

Buying tickets to Koh Samui

Time for a vacation on Koh Samui has been chosen, second very important step buying air tickets to Koh Samui. The sooner you start buying air tickets, the more chances you have to buy cheap tickets to Thailand. I think it is no secret to anyone that airfare makes up the lion's share of the entire travel budget.

How to get to Koh Samui

1. Buy a ticket directly to Koh Samui

Buy a plane ticket directly from your city to Koh Samui (with one or two transfers). It is usually more expensive, but more convenient and faster. If you are not tied to clear dates, then it is convenient to search for cheap tickets to Koh Samui using the calendar of low prices: enter in the form below the city of departure, city of arrival (Koh Samui), the duration of the vacation (for example, 12-15 days). The table shows the lowest ticket prices per month ( airfare in two directions). Click on the month you need, select the dates you need, go to the site to select and buy tickets to Koh Samui

2. Buy tickets to Bangkok or Puhket, and from there get to Koh Samui

It is usually cheaper to fly not directly to Koh Samui, but to fly to Bangkok or Phuket, and from there get to Koh Samui. My articles will help you to do this:

After the flight, I prefer to stay in Bangkok for at least a day. And on the way back, I allocate at least two days - I really love this noisy metropolis and especially shopping in it 🙂 I advise you to book a hotel in Bangkok in advance, my article will help you choose the area and hotel:

Important. If you are going to Samui for the winter and you know exactly how much time you will spend in Thailand, then I advise you to immediately buy round-trip tickets, it will cost significantly less than buying a separate ticket there, and then separately back. For example, a Moscow - Bangkok - Moscow ticket can be bought for $ 500 per person, and a Moscow - Bangkok ticket for $ 400.

Visa issues

Third step: tickets to the land of dreams have been bought, now it's time to think about visa issues. If you have:

Russian citizenship

Visa for a period not needed up to 30 days, a free stamp is put in the passport at the airport. The stamp can be renewed at the immigration office for another 7 days for 1900 baht.

If you are planning to be in Thailand more than 30 days, you need to apply for a visa at the embassy Thailand in Moscow or St. Petersburg. You can also go to one of the countries closest to Thailand for a visa. From Koh Samui, it is most convenient to go for a single entry visa to Malaysia. With a single entry visa, you can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days, and then it can be extended for another 30 days.

Ukrainian citizenship

A visa for 15 days can be issued upon arrival at the airport... The cost of a visa upon arrival is 1000 baht. If you plan to stay in Thailand for more than 15 days, you must apply for a visa in advance at the embassy. Read about applying for a Thai visa in Moscow.

Belarusian citizenship

Unfortunately, Belarusian citizens need to apply for a visa to Thailand in advance, Arrival visas are not available. There is no Thai embassy in Minsk; you can apply for a visa yourself in Moscow or use the services of a travel agency.

Choosing an area for living (beach) on Koh Samui

Step 4: choice of a suitable and convenient area for living - a guarantee of a good rest! For convenience, tourists and long-livers of Samui call the areas of the island by the name of the beaches. Those. Lamai beach this means not only the beach itself (coastline), but all the surrounding area.

My article will help you choose the right beach:

I will clarify again:

Chaweng - the most crowded and densely populated area, long coastline, many bars, restaurants, cafes, shops

Lamai and Bophut - optimal areas for long-term living

Mae Nam and Chong Mon - "children's" beaches

Lipa Noy and other western and southern beaches - uncrowded beaches for a quiet relaxing holiday, the sea is not swimming everywhere

Coral Cove, Crystal beach, Chaweng Noi - a good choice for a beach, hotel vacation

The sea is very dependent on the season: Chaweng and Lamai - always waves in winter, Ban Tai, Bang Po - in summer a very shallow sea.

At low tide, the beach may look like this (northern part of Lamai beach)
And this is also a beach on Koh Samui! It's just that the water is gone ... (southern beaches of the island)
Lipa Noi beach in August

If you are planning a vacation in Koh Samui for several weeks, then you can do this: spend part of your vacation on one part of the island, for example, on the beach or, and part of your vacation on another part of Koh Samui, for example, on the beach or.

Accommodation on Koh Samui. Hotels and houses on Koh Samui

Step 5: selection and booking of a hotel or home. If you are going to go to Samui on your own, then I advise you to take care of housing in advance. Let's first decide where it is better to live on Koh Samui: in a hotel or in a house? If you are going on vacation for a short period (2-3 weeks), then I advise you not to bother looking for a house, but to stay in hotel... Of course, if you have a large family, you can look for a house for a short time, but most often the cost of a house for 2 weeks will be the same as for a month.

How is the hotel convenient? At the hotel, your room is cleaned daily, toilet paper is brought, clean towels, bed linen is changed. Breakfast is usually included in the room rate. And most of the hotels are located on the first line from the beach - left the room, took a couple of steps and enjoy the warm sea.

I like to relax in hotels 🙂

I advise you to book a hotel in Koh Samui in advance! When booking through a booking system, the cost of a room is 99% lower than in the hotel itself (it has been checked more than once!). Choose and book a hotel room on Koh Samui:

If you want to live on Koh Samui for a longer period, for example, several winter months, then you need house 🙂

Houses on Koh Samui

I wrote how to look for a house on Samui. We are always looking for a house or apartment independently, without resorting to intermediaries... We arrive on the island, check in for a couple of days in a pre-booked hotel, rent a bike and ride around the island in search of a home. Even during peak season, finding a home on Koh Samui is NOT a problem, you just have to spend more time and, possibly, money. About our search for a home on Koh Samui in and in.

About our houses on Koh Samui:

Advice: if you plan to spend the winter, try to come to Koh Samui before December or already in February 🙂

But there are situations when you need book a house in advance (for example, you come to Koh Samui with a small child, do not know how to drive a car and a bike, do not know English, etc.), in this case, contact the agents and be ready to pay money for the services.

How to find agencies and realtors on Koh Samui? VKontakte groups will help you with this. Look for intermediaries through groups, and be sure to read reviews about them on the Internet.

What should be prepared when renting a house on Samui through intermediaries?

 • In order for you to book a house you need to transfer cash collateral (usually half the monthly home value). If you refuse to rent this house, then the deposit will NOT be refunded to you (I believe that this is quite fair and fair).
 • Some realtors take fixed amount from clients, usually it is 3,000 - 5,000 baht (~ 100-150 dollars)
 • Some agencies say that they do not take money from clients, that the commission is paid to them by the landlords, but this is not entirely true: just in the monthly fee will be slightly higher... For example, we rented a house in Maraden Resort ourselves without intermediaries for 10,000 baht, and our friends moved there through an agency (before us) for 12,000 baht.
 • It is not often, but it also happens that you booked a house on Koh Samui in July to December, paid a deposit, arrived happy on your own in Koh Samui, and the agency tells you: “Sorry, your house is busy, but we will offer you the best option for the same price ! ". It is clear that most likely the new option will not be better, but worse than the one you have chosen. It's not always the agency's fault in such a situation, it's just that Thais are such a people that it's not easy to negotiate with them ...
 • When booking a house, one should understand that the concept of "close to the sea" and "walking distance from the sea" is different for everyone. It seems to me that when describing a house, agencies indicate the distance from the house to the sea in a straight line, and not along the road. Well, yes, for example, from our house to the sea in a straight line 600 m, and along the road 1200 m 🙂 Our house is within walking distance from the sea, what do you think? It seems like yes ... but you are not particularly, especially if you are resting with children, and it is not pleasant to walk in the dark. In my concept, our house is NOT within walking distance from the sea, but in terms of the agency it is next to the sea 🙂 There can be a lot of such different little things when renting an apartment on Koh Samui in advance.

Therefore, I repeat: looking for a house by yourself upon arrival or in advance on the Internet is a very difficult choice 🙂 When searching for a house on Lamai on your own, my base of houses will help you:

There are many houses on Koh Samui. In the photo Lamai beach

Airbnb rental on Koh Samui

I think everyone has heard more than once about renting apartments and houses directly from the owners through the site. Should I rent a house on Koh Samui through this site? I didn't find inexpensive options for myself on AirBnb, but our friends rented a villa for a large company and were satisfied. Look at the database of offers for the island of Koh Samui, you may find something interesting for yourself. If you register using my link, you will receive gift - $ 25that you can spend on paying for housing.

About our experience of renting an apartment through AirBnb:

Insurance

Step 6: registration of an insurance policy. Do I need travel insurance to travel to Thailand? Officially, insurance is NOT required. Those. no one will check your insurance policy.

Whether or not to take out health insurance is up to you. On long trips, we took out insurance (we used it once), when we went on holidays for 2-3 weeks, we did not take out insurance. If you are traveling with children or planning to ride a bike, then I advise you to spare no money and still take out travel insurance. Fortunately, this can now be done without leaving your home.

Simply beautiful landscapes of Koh Samui

Money

The currency of Thailand is Thai Baht. Now 1 dollar ~ 35 baht

What currency to go to Koh Samui with? How do I manage money? This question, especially now, worries many. I will say right away: do not even think about going to Samui with cash rubles! Nobody needs them here, it's not.

I advise you to take dollars or euros and cards.

It is not a problem to change dollars and euros in any bank. It is convenient to pay by card in shops. Be careful - some hotels on Koh Samui may charge an additional commission of 2-3% when paying by card.

You can withdraw cash baht from the card at ATMs, which are numerous on the island. The maximum withdrawal amount at the ATM is 20,000 baht, the ATM commission is 150 - 180 baht. In Bangkok, you can withdraw cash from the bank (just come with a card and passport) without a commission. On Koh Samui, banks are now refusing to issue money and sending money to ATMs. Therefore, it is extremely unprofitable to withdraw small amounts. Rent 20,000 baht at once. And then recently in one of the Samui groups they wrote: "Oh, I took 500 baht from an ATM, but 1400 rubles were withdrawn from me!" - do not repeat other people's mistakes!

On Koh Samui on your own. Trip budget

Let's roughly calculate how much the trip to Koh Samui will cost on our own. The cost of tickets for the main flight will not be counted, their cost will depend on your luck and ability to catch airline shares 🙂 Let's talk about spending on the spot in Thailand.

If we talk about vacation on Koh Samui, then I would lay at least 100 dollars a day for two. You can read about how much we spent on vacation in and Koh Kude (and prices are approximately identical to Samui) here:

If we talk about the cost of wintering on Koh Samui, then the amounts can differ significantly: there are families who manage to live on 20,000 baht (less than $ 700) per month, but there are also many who live on 100,000 baht ($ 3,000) per month. I am in the middle and I believe that for a family of 2-3 people to live on Koh Samui you need 40,000 - 60,000 baht per month (1,200 - 2,000 dollars).

Come to Koh Samui! The island is waiting for you 🙂

Koh Samui Map

The map shows useful places and sights of Koh Samui

Twenty years ago, when the first Western tourists discovered this island of Thailand, it was a virgin corner of tropical nature and was a real paradise for wandering hippies. Today Koh Samui is visited by over a million foreign tourists a year. Affordable accommodations, great beach holidays and rich nightlife make Koh Samui one of the most popular resorts in Thailand.

Koh Samui is the third largest island in Thailand. Koh Samui is located 40 kilometers from the provincial capital of Surat Thani (700 kilometers from Bangkok), in the eastern part of South Thailand. The area of Koh Samui is 228.7 km². The diameter of the island is just over 20 km - you can drive around it in an hour by car.

The mountainous center of the island is covered with lush tropical jungle. Here is the highest point of the island - Khao Pom Peak (635 m). The main settlements and tourist centers are located along the coastline of the island. Along the main beaches of Koh Samui runs the main road artery of the resort - the ring road 50 km long.

Samui cities

Koh Samui together with the adjoining Ang Thong archipelago is a self-governing metropolitan area (amphoe) within the Surat Thani province and is divided into 7 sub-districts (tambon). The main settlements of the island are located around the largest beaches of Koh Samui, which have the official status of cities.

 • The list of cities in Koh Samui is headed by the old capital of the island - Nathon(Nathon). Nathon still retains its leading importance as the largest port of Samui and the administrative center of the same district (which also includes several adjacent islands). The main government offices and banks of Samui are located here. Nathon is not as popular a tourist destination as Chaweng or Lamai, so prices are somewhat lower.
 • Chaweng(Hat Chaweng) is the largest beach and city of Koh Samui, located in the northeast of the island. Chaweng is located in close proximity to Samui Airport. Chaweng has the most developed infrastructure and is the central resort of Samui. Here are the most expensive hotels in Samui, the best restaurants, shops and entertainment venues of the island.
 • Lamai(Hat Lamai) is the second largest and most popular beach in Koh Samui, located south of Chaweng. This Koh Samui resort features an abundance of bars, restaurants and cafes. Koh Samui is one of the most famous and popular resorts in Thailand, a real paradise for those who just need a break from the bustle of big cities in an atmosphere of eternal peace, tranquility and unity with nature. However, this does not mean at all that someone will be bored on Koh Samui, quite the opposite. For tourists there are a lot of all kinds of pastime options. From a visit to a local national park to a rum distillery where a family from France drives a cane drink. Among other things, Koh Samui is literally packed with sights of both a natural nature and those created by human hands. About this island we can safely say that it is, as in the famous song, “all covered with greenery, absolutely all”, as well as luscious coconut palms, wonderfully smelling flowers and a surprisingly rich and exotic fauna. Samui is also lucky in terms of climate: most of the year it is dry and warm and even hot.

The main wealth of Samui is, of course, its sea, tropical forests, picturesque rocks. You can endlessly wander and explore these marvelous places, especially on the territory of Paradise Park, which fully corresponds to its loud name. The park is located on the top of a mountain, on its paths you can easily see local residents - monkeys, colorful parrots and many other jungle inhabitants. After wandering around the park, you should take a refreshing dip in the pool, which is located on a sheer cliff.

We can safely say about Samui that it is, as in the famous song, "all covered with greenery, absolutely all".

Another brightest attraction of the island is the famous Magic Buddha Garden, which is a tropical forest in which at every step, on the rocks, under the crowns of trees, there are statues of Buddha and mystical creatures. This garden makes a strong and vivid impression on everyone who has been here at least once. By the way, it is not at all surprising that on Koh Samui there are a huge number of monuments and monuments dedicated to Buddha, because this is the leading religion in terms of the number of adherents in the country. There is a gigantic statue known far beyond the island, which, moreover, also rises on the mountain. She has a very telling name - Big Buddha. Indeed, when you see the impressive size of the statue of the deity, the validity of the epithet "big" does not doubt one iota.

Those who want to view the Buddha from a close distance will have to overcome a considerable number of steps.

Many tourists include a visit to a local rum distillery in their mandatory excursion program, and this is indeed a very exciting journey. A romance brewery on Koh Samui was created by a spouse - immigrants from France, bringing, by the way, a distillation apparatus here. And thus made rum practically a local delicacy, which can certainly be taken away from Samui as an original souvenir. In addition to a story about the production process and direct observation of it, guests will be offered and tasted rum, which is presented both in a classic form, or rather in taste, and with all kinds of additives.

Talking about Samui, one cannot fail to note such wonderful and interesting architectural works as, for example, the pagoda of the Laem Sor temple or the Plai Lem temple. Absolutely different from each other, but at the same time, both are amazingly beautiful, decorated with great skill, with a lot of small and detailed details.

Is it worth going to Koh Samui? Of course, of course, of course, on the first flight! Ask why so many emotions in response to such a simple question? Because I just returned from this wonderful island a month ago and still cannot calm down from the emotions and impressions that have captured me.

This vacation left only positive emotions, a sea of positive emotions and a great desire to return to Koh Samui again.

Judge for yourself: magnificent nature; the cleanest beaches that are cleaned every morning; gentle warm sea without a single wrinkle of waves; very smiling and friendly Thais. On the island, without exaggeration, very, very tasty food. Compared to the same Phuket, European food is much better here. If you ask not spicy, then the dish is not spicy by European standards, and not by the standards of the Thais themselves (as was the case with us in Phuket).

Moving around the island is a pleasure. All roads are either asphalt or concrete with very good quality of the road. On the island, you can rent a car or motorbike and safely travel from one end to the other, completely regardless of the whims of excursion tour operators. We rented a motorbike and traveled all over the island with pleasure, and the road in the center of the island is also excellent, so that it is quite possible to overcome it even on a bike. The island itself is not big, and if you plan a trip to any attraction in the morning, then you can safely and slowly ride back and forth, while still having time ... read in full

The enchanting and vibrant island of Koh Samui

Koh Samui in February is quite hot and with high humidity. This was the first impression of arriving at a place praised by all our friends and acquaintances. The land of smiles really smiled at us hot and humid. But even this first impression did not overshadow the beauty of the island's nature. As soon as we arrived at the resort it became clear that we would be living in paradise. The ennobled area exuded a mass of outlandish plantings with a honey-tart aroma, a variety of colored butterflies, the blue water of the pool, and strolling peacocks did their job. Avanta conquered us, we did not regret choosing this apart-hotel. Then, of course, we realized that it was not very convenient to get to the sea and took off the motorbike, the problem was solved, but the neighborhood with the peacocks brought us "joy" all the vacation, who does not know how they sing will not understand, but who knows, will sympathize.

The beaches on Koh Samui are very different, which is why the reviews of tourists differ so much. If we take Chaweng, Lamai and Maenam, these are the places where most of our citizens are, they talk about dirty and very crowded beaches, but this place will be to the liking of party-goers. There are many restaurants and bars. According to our experience of scouts, I share the really gorgeous beaches of the island, I warn you that some of them will not be easy to find, but it is worth trying, these are the beaches: Ban Tai - many palm trees, fine, pleasant and clean sand, suitable for children, smooth entry and clear crystal water , Lipanoi - good sand, an abundance of varied shells, good for sunbathing, but for swimming it is shallow, not ... read in full

Food and products

On average, 500 baht per day was spent on food - about 1,000 rubles. With this money, we could safely eat in large shopping centers like BigSi on the 4th floor in a food court, in small eateries, of which there are a lot on the island. Sometimes they bought ready-made meals at 7/11 or FamilyMart. We didn't cook it ourselves. We didn't go to expensive restaurants either. For example, a large portion of Tom Yama, or chicken noodles costs 40-50-60 baht (80-120 rubles). Beer on average is about 90-120 rubles. They bought fruits in the markets, but they are more expensive than they even came out here - bananas from 70 baht (140 rubles), pineapple 80 baht (160 rubles).

Souvenirs and other goods

They bought clothes for the child, T-shirts, blouses, glasses, towels, slippers and so on little things. Prices are about the same as in Russia. Total shopping costs no more than 15,000 rubles for 2 months.

Cost of services and entertainment

We took a moped for 2 months, the price is 4000 baht (8000 rubles a month).

Total money spent on vacation

Breakfasts seemed to me somewhat overpriced (as it turned out later), so I went to nearby cafes.

Maenam Beach is a very long beach located in the north of the island. Nice sand, good deep sea, practically no waves. Gentle entry into the sea. Along the beach there is a palm grove where you can hide from the sun. The beach, in my opinion, is suitable for people who prefer a relaxing holiday or for families with children. There are few cafes and bars, in general the beach is not crowded. In the evening, only a few bars are open and you will hardly meet anyone on the beach.

Bo Phut Beach is located next to Maenam Beach and is radically different from its neighbor: in the evenings it is fun and crowded. I liked the embankment very much. It seemed to me that the place is more adapted for youth recreation.

Lamai Beach is a not crowded beach (at least in March it was like that). The hotel beaches are equipped with everything necessary, in the rest of the territory there were no showers, toilets were only for visitors to the cafe. Sun beds can be taken there, but there are not too many of them and not enough for everyone (100 baht). If you do not have an umbrella, you will have to fry in the sun, as there is no (or almost no) natural shade on the beach. The beach is quite long. I was in its southern part: a deep sea with large boulders that you can suddenly stumble upon while swimming. For several days it was stormy, so I realized that in March it is not uncommon.

Where can I eat?

I really liked Mae Nam (Maenam Beach): excellent cuisine at the level of a good expensive restaurant, despite the fact that the prices are average. I note that they are not lower in comparison with other places, but in most cases the cuisine was inferior to Mae Nam. In addition, the institution has a high quality service. Excellent serving of food.

About the quality of food and service

Good food (with rare exceptions). The service is different, sometimes you had to wait a long time.

How much does it cost to eat? About food prices.

Breakfast within 150 baht (not far from the hotel) - mostly coffee and something to it. Lunch cost me somewhere in the 150-200 baht: as a rule, it was limited to one or two dishes depending on the size of the portions, since portions are often large, and I, in principle, are restrained in food. It could be: pizza (180-280 baht), seafood salad (80-130 baht), vegetable salad (70-90 baht), chicken salad (100-130 baht), fresh juice (60-80 baht), soup (60-80 baht). Fast food was also present: burgers (130-150 baht), tuna or chicken sandwich (100-130 baht). As for the dinner, it turned out differently depending on the place and mood.

Mae Nam: rice with shrimps and vegetables - 120 baht, fresh - 60 baht, tom yam - 150 baht, seafood salad - 139 baht, burritos - 195 baht, baked rice in pineapple - 160 baht, coconut shake - 80 baht.
