Save the memory of heroes

The Immortal Regiment is a social movement whose main goal is to preserve the personal memory of the generation of the Great Patriotic War. Every year in Russia, protesters gather and march in a column through the streets of cities with photographs of their relatives - army and navy veterans, partisans, underground fighters, resistance fighters, home front workers, concentration camp prisoners, blockades, children of war.

For the first time, the action took place on May 9, 2007 in Tyumen - many residents of the city, including schoolchildren, took to the streets with portraits of loved ones, participants in the war. The action was named “Portrait for a Parade”, and Gennady Ivanov was its creator and organizer. This initiative was taken up by other Russian cities.

In 2011, in Moscow, Lyudmila Shvetsova held an action “Heroes of Victory, Our Great-grandfathers and Grandfathers”. Gradually, it covered more and more Russian cities and inspired more and more Russians. In 2015, already 500 thousand people in Moscow and more than 12 million throughout Russia became members of the movement. The Immortal Regiment became an Immortal Army.

Participation in the movement is voluntary. People come to the march to honor the memory of loved ones, tell their stories and learn about other heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

Along with this, those who wish are given the opportunity to enter the name of a relative with short biography to the list of names of participants in the Great Patriotic War, located on the website of the movement "Immortal Regiment". As of May 19, 2015, there were over 270 thousand names on the list.

Some restrictions are imposed by the participation of the movement. Thus, the protesters are prohibited from using the "Immortal Regiment" as an advertising platform and displaying any corporate, political or other symbols not related to the goal of the movement on banners.

Descendants of the Sobibor concentration camp prisoners will pass among the participants of the column. They will carry photographs of their ancestors who took part in the uprising from Pushkin Square. Among the demonstrators will be the granddaughter of officer Alexander Pechersky Natalya Ladychenko. It was her grandfather who led the uprising in the camp on October 14, 1943. In total, according to the organizers' estimates, about a million people will pass through the "Immortal Regiment" in Moscow.

Moscow authorities are equipping 47 field kitchens for demonstrators. Water distribution and sanitary cabins are also provided. The procession column is planned to be divided into 25 sectors, 40 volunteers will work in each of them.

The column of the "Immortal Regiment" will cause certain difficulties for the passengers of the Moscow metro. In particular, the exits of six subway stations will be closed - Lubyanka, Kuznetsky Most, Revolution Square, Okhotny Ryad, Teatralnaya and Aleksandrovsky Sad, so think over your routes in advance.

The main task of the Immortal Regiment is to preserve in every Russian family the memory of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. Participation in the Immortal regiment implies that everyone who remembers and honors their veteran of the army and navy, partisan, underground fighter, Resistance fighter, home front worker, prisoner of a concentration camp, on May 9 goes to the streets of the city with a photograph of a soldier to take part in the parade in the Immortal column regiment, or independently pay tribute to the memory by bringing a photo to the Eternal Flame or other memorable place. We are not engaged in search work, but we can suggest from which open sources you can get data about your relative, a participant in the Great Patriotic War.

For many years, the idea of \u200b\u200bthe procession was literally “hanging in the air”. Back in 1965, schoolchildren in Novosibirsk took to the streets on May 9 with photographs of veterans.

However, the real birth of the "Immortal Regiment" took place in 2011 in Tomsk, thanks to the initiative of local media journalists. Then a column of local residents for the first time passed through the streets of Tomsk with banners-photographs of their loved ones - soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. The procession was attended by 6 thousand people.

And the next year the number of cities where the procession was held increased to 15. The next year, the number of cities doubled, and not only in Russia, but also in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Israel began to join the action.

In 2017, the "Immortal Regiment" has already marched through 1270 settlements in Russia and 42 countries.

IMPORTANT: In some cities, the authorities began to help the participants in the procession with printing photographs, increasing the size of the pictures and their lamination. As a rule, this is done in the MFC, information can be checked on the website moypolk.ru or in local media.

If this service is not available in your area, contact any copy center. They will help, and perhaps even free of charge.

Photos of my grandfathers are kept by my children: Nastya and Yaroslav. Parfenchikov Anton Osipovich, the commander of the subversive group, unfortunately, having gone through most of the war, disappeared in June 44 of the year. A serious tragedy for our family. And Ivan Dmitrievich, mother's father, was a driver on the road of life, was wounded, after being wounded he was discharged. Until 75 he was with us, I remember him well ”.

The war left a terrible bloody trail to every family. It's great that there are so many people, young people. Every year the regiment gets bigger and bigger. One thing can be said: our grandfathers did not fight in vain. Life goes on, I am sure that it will be better every day. Peaceful life must be protected, protected. The times are not easy. But our grandfathers have worthy grandchildren, they continue to defend our homeland. The war left us a lesson: the enemy must not be allowed into the house, he must be destroyed at the lines. Better yet, in his lair. This is what our soldiers are doing in Syria. Let's wish them to return home alive and be worthy of the feat of their grandfathers, the agency "Republic of Karelia" quotes Parfenchikov.

You need to make banners with a portrait of your relatives who took part in the battles of the Great Patriotic War or forged victory in the rear, and come to the meeting place of the participants of the Immortal Regiment.

And where are the gathering places for the participants of the "Immortal Regiment"?

In 2018, the organizers identified three collection points:

Lenin Avenue, 71 (former cinema, now the shopping center "Russia");

Where can I find information about relatives who fought in the Great Patriotic War?

Today, there are quite a few sites on the Internet where you can find information about your relatives who fought during the Second World War. The most famous of them are "OBD Memorial" and "People's Feat". These resources contain documents from the Central Archives of the RF Ministry of Defense. The great thing is that these databases are constantly updated.

The site "Memory of the People" is also known today. Here you can find a lot of documents of the Great Patriotic War, including journals of military operations.

The site "Saxon Memorials" will help you find information about relatives who were captured during the war.

During the march of the regiment, will someone provide order?

Sure. Police officers, cadets of BYUI, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will be on duty. Also, from 300 to 400 volunteers will be involved in organizing the procession.

These are mainly students of higher educational institutions. Among them will be students of the Altai State Medical University. If necessary, they will be able to provide first aid. Medical volunteers will wear vests with a red cross to distinguish them from others.

And what will happen after the march of the regiment?

This year, the organizers decided not to limit themselves to one procession of the "Immortal Regiment" participants. Many participants have said before that they lack a certain final point: they would like some kind of creative action.

And this year the organizers decided to organize a stage with free karaoke on Sakharov Square. After the "Immortal Regiment" comes to the square, its participants will be able to sing war songs or songs that their relatives loved.

In addition, the Wall of Memory will work on Sakharov Square.

Everyone will be able to leave congratulations on Victory Day on it, as well as enter the names of their relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War.

Help: what is the "Immortal Regiment"

The Immortal Regiment is a public action in memory of the participants in the Great Patriotic War, who are no longer with us today. During it, the participants walk in a column and carry banners with photographs of their relatives who participated in the Second World War.

The idea first appeared in Tyumen in 2007. Then, members of the Council of Veterans of the Police Battalion in the Tyumen Region marched through the city streets with portraits of their fathers. But the stock was still unnamed. The next year, a large column came out with pictures of the front-line soldiers, the action was called "Parade of Victors". The action received the name "Immortal Regiment" in 2012 in Tomsk.

In 2015, the civil initiative was included in the federal program of preparation for the 70th anniversary of the Victory. On May 9, 2015, 500 thousand people walked along Red Square in Moscow with portraits of their fathers and grandfathers. Among them is the country's President Vladimir Putin with a portrait of his front-line father.
