How to get from rimini to florence on your own. Independently from Rimini to Florence, a tourist's review of Florence. From Rimini to Florence by car

  • 19.09.2020

We ran past the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella.

I really wanted to eat. On the short way to the city center there were cafes and restaurants, but we decided to deviate a little from the well-trodden tourist paths and immediately found a wonderful trattoria. It seems to me that they never fed us so tasty and cheap.

I recently learned that Florence is conventionally considered the gastronomic capital of Europe. Italians are gourmets, in Florence you understand this as nowhere else!

When we entered the chosen trattoria, we did not leave the feeling that we were in another time, pushed back by 100 years!

Firstly, the hall's furnishings, stylized in antique style, with smoked wood finish immediately created a feeling of rejection of real time;

Secondly, local visitors, reading newspapers at lunch, or simply coming to have a bite to eat and chat, completed the picture of the constancy of what is happening within these walls: it has always been so, it will always be so, no matter what year is written on the calendar.

Trattoria-institution with home cooking. Ordered meat (they brought huge pork rolls) with saffron and a side dish of potatoes and vegetables, cheese, vegetable salad, a decanter of homemade Tuscan wine. And then there was coffee and ice cream. The price of lunch is 35 euros for two! The fact that it was all superbly prepared is worth mentioning. We have never drunk such delicious wine anywhere.

Now it was possible to proceed to a closer acquaintance with the city, from meeting with which is breathtaking! Homeland of Dante and Michelangelo - what is it? Everything that I admire in painting, architecture, originates precisely in Florence, where the Renaissance began! All subsequent art, which makes one think about the meaning of existence, the purpose of one's place in the system of the universe, the striving for perfection, came out of Renaissance Florence, like Russian literature from Gogol's "Overcoat".

Faster, faster, we have little time to accommodate the spirit of this unique city! I never set myself the task of a thorough and detailed study of what is interesting to me, I do not really like details, I perceive the whole picture. In the case of getting to know the city of Florence, it was more important for me to understand and absorb the spirit of this city, especially since there was frankly little time.

Coming out of the trattoria, after a while we saw a beautiful building. We entered. A grand piano was installed there, Chopin's music was performed by a young pianist. Excellent acoustics made it sound brilliant. For about 15 minutes we allowed ourselves to listen to this miracle. The music heightened the enthusiastic mood from touching what is called “the genius creation of the human spirit called Florence”!

Of the most interesting cities in Italy, the capital of Tuscany is the closest to Rimini. It is not surprising that many "our" travelers, vacationing at the famous beach resort, wonder how best to get from Rimini to Florence in order to see firsthand one of the most beautiful and rich in sights cities in Europe. That is why BlogoItaliano decided to devote a separate article to all the ways to travel from Rimini to Florence and back.

Distance from Rimini to Florence in a straight line - about 170 kilometers. But this is exactly the case when the direct path is not the shortest in time. Most travelers prefer to detour through: although the distance increases by almost 80 km, due to the more developed infrastructure, the journey takes less time. But this is all a hint - now let's get down to the details.

Rimini, Piazza Tre Martiri

From Rimini to Florence by plane

With a direct flight Rome-Florence, you will be disappointed: it is not there, and if the route is introduced, it is extremely rare. Actually, he is not needed here. Other transport options are much more convenient in terms of both price and time. In any case, you can always check the latest flight information on the Aviasales website.

Just keep in mind that to the price and time of the flight itself, you will need to add the travel time to the airport and back, as well as the clearance for the necessary pre-flight procedures.

Train to Rimini Florence

If there is a tension with planes from Rimini to Florence, it is precisely because trains reign supreme in this niche. Moreover, both in Rimini and Florence, the stations are located in the city center and it will not be difficult to get to them. In Florence itself, by the way, it is within walking distance of the main attractions, so you can do without public transport at all.

Santa Maria Novella train station is located in the heart of Florence

There is no direct train to Rimini Florence, but there are two options with transfers - in Bolognaor Faenze... The only difference between them is that the train through Faenza is cheaper, and they both cover the distance in almost the same time (the journey will take a little more than two hours).

As for the schedule and estimated prices, they are as follows:

Rimini-Florence train via Bologna:

The Rimini-Bologna train schedule is from 3:48 am to 20:17 pm (2018). There are many trains leaving Bologna Station for Florence, so you can leave all day long. The approximate price of one-way tickets - from 23 Euro - depending on the amenities for the entire route.

Where to buy tickets?

Tickets can be bought directly at the box office at the station or in advance.

Buying online is usually cheaper. As we wrote above, on Italian railways, fares change depending on the time of purchase of the ticket: the sooner the cheaper... Prices reach their peak on the day of departure, and therefore, if there is an opportunity to purchase seats in advance, it is a sin not to use it.

Train tickets can be bought directly at the station ticket offices

To buy online, you need a bank card and an Email address, where the ticket will be sent as a PDF file within a few minutes after purchase. All that remains is to print it out and take it with you to the station.

Important: If you bought a ticket without the time of departure and place on the train indicated on it, then before boarding it must be punched in a special punch, which is located right in front of the exit to the platform. Composters at Italian train stations are yellow and green.

This option is perfect for companies planning to actively get acquainted with the sights not only in the vicinity of Rimini, but also in other cities. When renting for a long time, the cost of each individual day will decrease, and on long trips, you can even save money (even taking into account the cost of fuel and use of the autobahns). But the main advantage of the car is, of course, freedom of movement and the opportunity to see more.

Freedom of movement and the ability to see more are the main advantages of a car

For route planning - both in terms of prices and time - it makes sense to use the popular Viamichelin website. Online, it calculates several alternative routes and provides recommended options, taking into account the cost of gasoline, the cost of autobahns, road repairs, etc.

For example, our best travel option from Rimini to Florence is as follows: travel time - 3 hours 30 minutes; cost excluding car rental - 23.08 Euro (including 3.30 Euro expenses for using motorways and 19.78 Euro for gasoline).

As for the car rental itself, for the most economical search, it is worth using the Rentalcars car rental price comparison system. The online service monitors the availability of cars and price changes in thousands of car rentals around the world, and finds the most profitable options in a few clicks. It only remains to book. By the way, at the peak of the season in Rimini it is better not to yawn with this - cars at good prices do not stale for a long time.

In Florence

If with options how to get from Rimini to Florence we figured it out, now is the time to think in more detail about the program of your stay in Italy. And here our and useful video about what to see in the city in the first place will help you.

Today I went to Moscow for passports with visas. In my favorite 2nd class, there were no tickets on the Yaroslavl-Moscow train, I had to stop at the third. This is a suburban train from the past, only the benches are slightly upholstered with something soft. The whole carriage to the eyeballs, 98 passengers. I sit and feel the thigh and elbow of the neighbor on the left and the neighbor on the left. I remembered my trip from Rimini to Florence on a working electric train. This was the first trip with children to Italy. There was no money left at all, and there was a great desire to see Florence. Still from home was heading for a budget trip to Florence.

The boys gave up this idea and stayed in Rimini to swim and sunbathe. My children are independent, perhaps beyond their years. However, I trust them completely. And they always justify this trust. For this special thanks to my beloved sons.

We agreed on the time of the checkout by SMS, and I went to Florence.

There is no direct railway connection Rimini-Florence. To get to Florence from Rimini you can use the buses of the network http://www.bonellibus.it. I traveled with a change by rail.
You can get there with one change in the provincial town of FAENZA (Faenza). Change in about 30 minutes if you go early in the morning.
The train is working, runs several times a day. I got to GFaenza on a regular regional train. I know a dozen words from Italian, which you probably know too. For the cashier, I prepared a piece of paper on which I wrote in advance what I want. Everything went smoothly. Yes, Florence is spelled like Firenze in Latin.

The ticket was in hand and I was in anticipation of a working electric train. To be honest, I was a little afraid of Italian hard workers. I imagined that from a suburban city people would rush to some factory near Florence. Imagine my surprise when the composition was submitted. Three cozy trailers, almost empty, in the center of the so-called working electric train, there are round sofas, where it would be convenient for the company to sit. I chose more comfortable chairs.

Before the departure, the driver went to the platform, made a solemn speech in Italian, probably warning about the departure of the train, pulled the bell by the string and got on the train.

Hurray, let's go! Air conditioners, of course, work properly. The driver approached each of the few passengers and asked if he was satisfied with the temperature in the cabin. I naively thought that he came to check the ticket, but it was not part of his duties. In Italy, tickets on trains are checked by controllers who board at some stations and follow the route for this very purpose. I understood the purpose of the guide's visit to me from English phrases and gestures. Am I comfortable and is it blowing too hard from the air conditioner? It was already the second week of my stay in the country, where at that time few people spoke Russian and the acquired knowledge of the English language had already emerged from the depths of the brain.
Outside the window, incredibly beautiful landscapes opened, the road passed through the Apennines. It was already worth it to go this way. The carriage driver performed his ritual with a bell at each station. I felt like a Russian noblewoman who travels around Italy. Breathing in the Adriotic breeze, it makes its way through the Apennines to Florence. True, I had a hat without strings and did not have enough bag.
At the stations, passengers came in, supposedly workers. These were men in suits and ties to a greater extent. Apparently bank employees and clerks. In a word, a pleasant company. Of course, I read that the structure of employment in European countries is different from ours, and the bulk of the population is employed in the service, but at that time I was thinking in Russian stereotypes.
On the way back, everything went about the same, although there were much more passengers, and at one of the stations our train stood for about an hour. Do not cook, it was in my thoughts to take a walk in that town, but I was a little worried about how my children were there and decided to skip this walk and were alone in Rimini. When it was announced that the tracks were being repaired and the train would leave in 40 minutes, my excursion still took place. I sent the boys an unscheduled SMS and went to get acquainted with another provincial town.
Oh, these thoughts! How strong they are! At critical moments, I always say to myself: Think about what you think! Thoughts materialize. This is true, and often so quickly that it seems as though she is in a fairy tale!
Let's go back to Florence. Going to Florence, I forgot to hurry up to take with me my magic guide, which I bought on my first trip to Italy, and with which all my friends travel to Italy. It was necessary to get out of the situation. then has not yet come into my life.
The information point at the Florence train station was still closed. I took one of the cards that were on the advertising rack. And hit the road. Actually, you can walk on Florenzib without a map, because you move from one masterpiece to another. That's how it worked out for me. From time to time I glanced at the map so as not to miss anything nearby. Some objects have been specially marked. An additional red dot. At the fifth such facility, I realized what these signs were and laughed for a long time, and even now I remember about it only with a smile, because these were sanitary rooms. I just took a map of Florentine toilets. Hilarious! I keep it as a funny souvenir. I have never seen such a thematic map anywhere else.
You yourself understand that I did not miss a single worthwhile place, because these establishments are in demand in the best places in the world, where there is a crowd of people.
I arrived early, it was not yet 9 am. It's just magical to walk around Florence before the groups of tourists have arrived. Most come here for one day by sightseeing buses. And crowds are formed at once and everywhere, I felt this fully by lunchtime, when I had already descended the Oltrarno hill.

There are many beautiful places in Florence that you can visit for free. It's true. And they are open from early morning.

Here are some of them: Chiostro dello Scalzo, there are frescoes by Andrea del Sarto, open Monday-Thursday, Saturday from 8.30 to 13.50. Address: via Cavour, 69
Cenacolo di Sant 'Appolonia, there is Andrea del Castagno's "Last Supper", open from 8.15 to 13.50 (except Monday 2 and 4 and Sunday 1, 3, 5). Address: via XXVII Aprile, 1
Duomo - the cathedral is open daily from 10.00 - 16.30, and on Sunday you can visit strictly from 13.30 to 16.45
The Iris Garden is beautiful and is available for inspection on April 24 - May 20 from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 15.00 to 19.00, every day. Address: piazzale Michelangelo
The Rose Garden is magnificent and can be visited from May 1st to June 15th from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily. Address: via Monte alle Croci

It is worth purchasing a ticket to the Uffiza Gallery in advance.

Florence is known as an open-air museum city and is the cradle of the Renaissance. A lot of art treasures known all over the world are located here. Florence is Medici, Uffizi, David, Dome. David's original awaits at the Academy. and its counterpart is in Piazza della Signoria. "Spring" Botticelli will see in the Uffizi! And all these masterpieces seen many times are near! The impressions are just magical!

For some time now I have learned how to make a short video right away when shooting. Arriving from Tunisia with 12 hours of video recording, I realized that I had to work for many hours to choose the best, cut, edit, etc. I was able to squeeze it to an hour-long film, having spent more than one day on it. And it is interesting to watch it in full only for those who were there.
Florence inspired me so much that I told myself 15 times that this was the last story, enough. However, there was not enough will and the camera was in working order after a few meters again. Perhaps I did this because I wanted to show my Florence to my family.

Shopping and souvenirs. Do you love gold jewelry? Then the Golden (Old) Bridge is not for you. And what kind of leather goods are here: The longer such a thing lives, the better it gets. Looking to buy Florentine chic? Then you are not on the market!

The best panorama of Florence opens from Piazza Michelangelo on the Oltrarno hill. Here I met Russian tourists, whom I asked to take a picture with me as a keepsake.
Coming down from the Oltrarno hill, I got to the famous Golden Bridge, where there are many shops and shops, everything glitters and sparkles with splendor. However, experts warn that there are only two stores of the Florentine jewelry school, in the rest you can buy a fake.

Leather products amazed my imagination: wallets, cases, boxes without a single seam, eyeglass cases, made using an exclusive technique known exclusively to Florentine craftsmen. There is a lot of leather and in different variations. I was annoyed that I had not left a stash for Florence. I just didn't have a credit card at that time. I was content with what I saw.

Florence is amazing. It is worth preparing for the trip in advance, you can use it to create your own route. This is the largest travel site. I am always happy to leave reviews on hotels and attractions on it. And even dedicated a special post to this service.

My children spent a pleasant and useful time in Rimini, and in the evening we had a farewell Italian dinner.

My publications on Italy will be useful

The Rimini - Florence direction is popular among travelers, and first-time travelers to Italy often have questions about how to get from one city to another, and what distance separates them.

When choosing to travel by train as a way of getting from Rimini to Florence, travelers often have a problem with which types of tickets need to be composted before boarding the train and which ones should not.

In fact, distinguishing one type of travel document from another is not difficult. Tickets, which do not require composting, have the date and time of travel, and sometimes an indication of the place. Tickets that do not have such designations need to be composted before boarding the car.

By car

By car, you need to go along the "A-1" motorway, passing through Bologna. If you don't stop on the way, the distance between Florence and Rimini can be covered in 2.5-3 hours.

However, in reality, such a trip can take any time, because on the way through picturesque Tuscany there are a lot of interesting things for the traveler, and even staying for a day or two in medieval Bologna is very attractive, especially if you have free time and there is no connection to transport.

Mark Stephenson / flickr.com

The A-1 highway itself is equipped with everything necessary to ensure a comfortable journey, and cross-positioned video cameras monitor the observance of traffic rules and speed limits. Thanks to video surveillance along the route to Florence, accidents almost never happen, all road users comply with the rules and speed requirements.

It is impossible to get lost here even for a person who first sat behind the wheel of a car in Italy - everywhere extremely clear and understandable indicators and signs even for a traveler far from driving.

If you don’t stop by anywhere but Bologna on the way, the cost of the fuel spent on the trip will be from 46 to 52 euros. You can clarify your questions about car rental in Rimini on the portal.

A taxi from Rimini to Florence will cost from 320 euros, so tourists usually do not use this method on this route.

Air travel is attractive, first of all, because it makes irrelevant questions - how many kilometers from Rimini to Florence, how easier it is to change trains, how much gasoline will cost, whether it is necessary to validate the ticket and other problems that tourists traveling by land transport face.

dutyfreehunter.com

The Rimini - Florence route is served by local regional airlines and private air carriers providing charter services. Airplanes need to cover only 102 kilometers, since flights are not tied to roads and local landscape features, the distance in the air is always shorter than on the ground.

This travel option is suitable for travelers who have a small amount of time, because after takeoff in Rimini, the plane enters the Florentine airport in less than an hour, and all the time on the way, along with the road to or from the airport, as well as taking into account ground procedures takes less than an hour and a half.

The only, but rather significant, disadvantage of air travel is its cost, which is very high compared to how to get there by land and ranges from 300 to 400 euros. For 300 euros, you can fly on a scheduled small plane by purchasing a ticket at the box office, from 300 to 400 it costs a flight in a private charter plane.

However, oddly enough, but air travel is quite in demand, and there are often no tickets for regular flights, especially on pre-holiday days, so it is best to book them through the website, for example.

Italians themselves prefer to travel on regional trains and, of course, in their own cars.

What's better?

As for those vacationing in Rimini who, in addition to the beaches of this ancient Italian resort, decided to see Florence, the best way to travel for 1-2 days is by bus.

On the way, you can see the most picturesque places in Tuscany, while stopping in Bologna, take a few photos, since the bus station is located in a picturesque medieval small square, and you do not have to look for transfer options and understand the peculiarities of payment and the nuances of schedules.

A train ride from Rimini to Florence will require some skill, but the inconvenience associated with the need to change trains is fully compensated by the opportunity to explore one of the Tuscan cities along the way, which is not included in any tourist route.

Traveling on regional trains also has another plus - the opportunity to find yourself in a truly Italian environment, and not in a carriage filled with foreign tourists noisyly versed in guidebooks or trying to post something on their social networks.

Driving a rented car is a good travel option that gives you the most freedom and the ability to make adjustments to your planned trip. The biggest disadvantage of this option is the lack of an opportunity to taste the famous wines of Tuscany, because you cannot be drunk while driving a car, and in a foreign country it is many times more dangerous than in your own.

Of course, driving in a rented car requires not only sobriety, but also a minimum understanding of the traffic rules adopted in Italy and at least partial knowledge of the Italian language.

Rimini in Italy is considered a Russian resort. For compatriots, Rimini is associated with three things. For the unassuming majority, this is a relatively inexpensive, crowded resort. More advanced vacationers choose it also because the city is close to Ravenna and. And only true aesthetes connect Rimini with the place where the great Federico Fellini lived. For me, this place is attractive because of its proximity and the ability to easily get from Rimini to Florence.

Do you want to fly by plane?

You can fly from Rimini to Florence with local airlines, train, bus, taxi or rental car. True, I have never heard of tourists using the Rimini-Florence plane, but it is quite possible that I had no luck with friends. Just in case, let me inform you: the flight lasts 1 hour and costs approximately € 300.

Bus option

Traveling by bus will be much cheaper, it will not last much longer, and you will get additional pleasures in the form of a panoramic view from the window. And I promise you aesthetic pleasures - Tuscany is rightfully considered a blessed land even in Italy, where everything is beautiful without exception. The distance between Rimini and Florence is 165 kilometers, the trip lasts 3 hours 35 minutes and costs only 20 euros one way. There may be a problem with bus tickets, so book them in advance. You can buy tickets online on the website.

All options are option - train

Most often, both locals and tourists who prefer to travel on their own move from Rimini to Florence by rail. Unfortunately, there are no direct trains, but a convenient train schedule allows you not to wait too long for a change. There are two routes - via Bologna and Faenza. We chose the route via Faenza. Firstly, it is cheaper ... This, in fact, is where the benefits end. Both routes are equal in terms of time and transfers. Trains to Faenza leave at 6:15, 6:24 and 6:58, while there are more trains to Bologna and they leave frequently, but the price difference is noticeable.

To save money, we decided to take a working electric train, which departs several times on weekdays. Poor Italian at the station ticket offices did not interfere - the residents of Rimini are already used to Russians and, it seems, understand us quite well. The ticket price is a little over 11 euroshaving paid, we went to the platform. The train to Faenza is regional, so the purchased tickets are valid for two months. The train station in Rimini is located in the city center, while walking, just go to the ticket office, check the schedule, find out how much the ticket costs.

A few words about the Italian railway

Between the Italian neighboring cities (up to 300 km) there are trains, which we call electric trains. Train tickets are not booked and seats are not indicated, but they work for several months. Italian "domestic" trains look ugly and not fast, but very cheap. Inside, the trains are quite comfortable, so do not compare them with our own suburban trains.

You can find out the exact cost of tickets on the website of the main passenger railway carrier in the country -

You can buy a ticket at the box office or at the machine at the station before departure. Be sure to punch it with one of the yellow boxes hanging here and there, otherwise you are almost guaranteed to survive a few not very pleasant minutes when meeting with the controllers who will definitely enter the trains and fine free riders 100 euros. Knowledge of English will not help you when buying a ticket at the box office, Italians rarely speak foreign languages. It is better to prepare a note for the cashier with the destinations, the number of tickets and the train number.

Terminals seem to me to be the most convenient way to buy tickets. The slot machine "knows" English, so change money and go to the boxing boldly, choose the destination of the trip, train, and pay in cash or by card. The procedure is familiar, isn't it? Please be aware that the terminal does not give change... You will receive a piece of paper indicating the amount of the loan, presenting it at the box office, you can pay for another independent tour of Italy.

Only tickets with no seats indicated should be poured; the rest are checked by inspectors who can enter the carriage at any station. Tickets are not checked upon boarding, and there are no turnstiles at Italian train stations. You can take a chance and ride a hare, but I advise you to abandon this idea - inspectors almost always get on the train.

At the stations there are always electronic displays, in any case, in my travels around Italy, I have never been to a station, wherever it is. Find a placard that says Partenza (departure) and look for the train by number. If you have chosen an electric train as a means of transportation, the information on the scoreboard appears in 15 minutes. before departure.

The direct train Rimini-Florence still exists only in the dreams of tourists, so you will definitely have to change from train to train. Try to avoid short connections - the Italians are not too punctual, the train may well be 15 minutes late.

On a date with Florence

We chose the route through the provincial Faenza and left the "working" train at 6:15.

The train, consisting of only three neat carriages, turned out to be very comfortable, clean, with working air conditioners and comfortable seats. Before departure, the conductor on the platform solemnly announced our departure and pulled the bell by the string. At the very beginning of the journey, the driver approached each passenger to find out if the temperature in the car was okay and if there were any requests. There were no complaints and requests - we could not tear ourselves away from the views outside the window - we drove through the Apennines. At each stop, new passengers entered the car, completely unlike the workers imagined. At 7:00 we arrived safely in Faenza, only 5 minutes late.

The station in Faenza is small and it is not difficult to get from path to path. Already at 7:30 we drove to Florence, diving, holding our breath, in the tunnels and numb from the mountain scenery.

At about 9:20 am we were already in Florence, at the train station, and we had the whole day at our disposal. For me, this meeting was not the first, and the neophytes only manage to experience the first shock in a day, and to establish themselves in their desire to return to Florence.

The first thing that appears when leaving the station is the Church of Santa Maria Novella. By and large, one could stay here for the whole day, examining the untold treasures of this temple. Mozaccio's fresco "Holy Trinity", works by Ghirlandaio, paintings by Filippo Lippi, chapels and naves impress even the most emotionally insensitive citizens.

But having visited Florence, you cannot fail to see the Duomo, this second name is a temple of extraordinary beauty and size. The central square of the city - Piazza della Signoria with its palaces and monuments. Old ponte Vecchio and Vasari Corridor - one of a kind. But there is also the Santissima Annunziata church ... It is pointless to list everything that you can see in Florence. If you are planning a one-day excursion, you can stock up on a guidebook, order a guide, or you can just walk the streets and, believe me, you do not have to look for sights - Florence consists of them. A one-day acquaintance will leave the desire to come back here again.

In the evening, the main thing is not to miss the train. Our No. 21479 departed on schedule at 17:40. We returned by the same road, changing to the other side of the car, so as not to miss any of the beauties of Tuscany.
